Spring is definitely here and things are looking beautiful! I just love all the looks that are available to us this season. This is probably one Spring in many years that we have a such a fantastic choice!

Anti-ageing make-up application techniques

In March I did a talk and live demo at the Vitality Show for the Top Santé audience. I combined new the Spring Looks with anti-ageing application techniques. I would like to share these with you.

Firstly there are loads of gorgeous make-up shades round but what to go for and do I have to buy it all to look great.

Before I start may I just say all my models were ladies from the audience and they were at least 45+.

Pick one or two key products to update your look

If you are wondering what the Key Spring looks are well there are 3 in make-up and NO you don’t have to buy the whole range to look terrific. You can simply pick one or two key products such as a blush or an eye pencil to update your look.

The first look is the nudes or naturals with a hint of shimmer. Think coffee, honey and caramel tones. And don’t be afraid of shimmer it will make you look more youthful. Its frost that ages everyone and too much matte can be aging as well making your skin look dry. Think of shimmer as a sheer chiffon fabric and frost as lame. Here the emphasises is not on any one area of the face. It is a matter of balance. The eyes are softly defined with a sweep of coffee toned shadow across the eyes and highlighted with a touch of vanilla under the arch of the brows. Cheeks are sculpted with a honeyed apricot hued blush and lips are full with a nude cappuccino demi gloss.

The nautical look

The second is the nautical look. Think red, white & blue. Try deep navy on the eyes, as a shadow, liner or mascara. Navy is a great twist on the classic brown. Navy near the base of the lashes also helps the whites of your eyes look whiter. You could even create a softer smokey eye look using navy, taupe and bone coloured shadows. A flush of soft pink on the cheeks and a dash of bright sheer red on the lips makes this look a new classic.

The Floral look

And finally the look I created live on stage on my audience models was the Floral look. This look is probably the one that most shy away from because it’s like a Spring bouquet of flowers on the face. Lots and lots of colour but because they are all sheer it worked beautifully. I started with a wash of lilac on the eye lids and followed by a touch of buttermilk coloured highlighter under the arch of the brows. I defined the eyes with a deep purple pencil and navy mascara. I then framed the face with bronzer and a splash of coral blush on the apples of the cheeks. I ran highlighter along the tops of the cheek bones to really make them pop. I finished the look with a soft pink liquid lip (a hybrid of gloss and lip stick). I know you may be reading this and thinking yuck!!! But trust me these colours really work together. Give them a try you won’t look like a clown or a panto dame. I promises!!!

Make-up colours are fresh and uber modern

And finally if you only want to update your look with one single colour let it be a blush or lip a shade of peach or apricot.

Now I hear some of you groaning at the thought of what you may perceive as granny colours or just a quick way a looking tangoed but it is just not so. These colours are fresh and uber modern! They can be worn by anyone and you won’t look orange!! The look is a blend of innocence, vibrance and a hint of seduction. But above all Pretty!  Keep your complexion looking velvety with a Liquid Mineral Foundation. Eyes are innocently understated with an eye shadow palette of neutral shades. Definition comes in the way of charcoal gel liner along the base of the top lashes and a generous amount of mascara. The real hit of colour comes from the blush and the lips. With your eyes looking soft you real can play up both cheeks and lips. Please give this look a try you won’t be disappointed.
