Weddings are a happy time not only for the bride & groom, but also for their mothers who have dreamt of this day since their daughter or son was born. Thus it is important for them to choose the right wedding make-up to look their best on the big day.
Part of the problem with being a more mature woman is that you may feel that you are stuck in a make-up rut but really feel that this is not the time to be experimenting with new looks. Well I agree as a woman in her 50’s myself I know that we want to look and feel our best. The first step to looking your best is to be comfortable with your age and your appearance. This might mean booking a make-up lesson to re-evaluate and up date your look. With little planning and the right wedding make-up, you can achieve the perfectly glowing, radiant long-lasting look that you will love not just for the wedding day but all year round.
Cosmetic Products specifically designed for mature woman
There are a remarkable number of fabulous cosmetic products that are specifically designed for the more mature women, so they can look as glowing and radiant as ever. With some careful preparation and right make-up techniques, we can enjoy more than a few compliments from other females and admiring stares from men –
1) Stay away from bland neutral and brown shades on the eyes. On a more mature face, this can make you look tired, jaded and worn out and as such is not an especially flattering choice to rely upon. It is better to go with what I call the new neutrals such as purple, navy, charcoal ivory rather than white champagne and honey shades work beautifully. To prevent eye shadow creasing use a primer first.
2) Refrain from using shiny mineral powders. While the purpose of these is to give the skin a healthy and glowing appeal, on a mature face such shimmery products can merely sit on the surface highlighting open pores and other flaws.
Make fine lines look less obvious
3) Primers are excellent for creating a base for the wedding or any make-up. They can give the skin a smoother texture, minimise open pores, make fine lines look less obvious and plump up the skin instantly. These are also great for ensuring that the makeup stays put for longer. In addition your complexion will look more youthful.
4) To give depth to your eyes and make them stand out, try a gel liner. These have a smooth finish and are easy to apply. When applied to the base of the top lashes they will help your lashes look fuller.
5) Waterproof mascara is a must for any mother of the bride or groom. Choosing one in a black or navy blue shade can give your eye lashes a richer appearance and make the whites of your eyes appear whiter. Why not add a few individual lashes as well. They look fantastic.
6) The new light-weight liquid mineral Foundations with light-reflecting properties are your best friend. These will help smooth the appearance fine lines, uneven textures and pigmentation on your face, giving your complexion a flawless and even appearance.
Magically give your face a lift
7) Want to magically give your face a lift? Then try using a illuminating pen. Apply the illuminator after foundation in the opposite way the lines go, then blend. Be generous. You will see your lines fade before your eyes.
8) Brows really make a huge impact. If your brows are sparse then you can fill them in. If you have never been brave enough to pluck them then this is the time.
Create fuller looking lips
9) Lips are another area that need more attention as we get older. For some it might mean that we want to increase fullness for others it is more of a change of colour that is required. To create fuller looking lips you might want to try one of the many lip plumpers as a base. You can also create fuller looking lips by applying the same illuminating pen around the outer edge of your lips and blend. Then line along the edge of your lips with a lip coloured lip pencil. Most women tend to line inside their lip line that makes lips look smaller. Choose more vibrant shades of lip colour again taupe, beige and too pale shades can make you look tired, even a bit bland and worst of all it doesn’t look great in photos. If you want your teeth to look their whitest then opt for a lip colour that has a slight cool undertone rather than warm. And try a whitening tooth polish.
10) Blush and powder. Your blush will really bring your face to life and should go on the apples of your cheeks. This will instantly give your face a lift. I suggest apricot or rose toned shades as these are so flattering And a final note about powder. Don’t unless it is really really necessary and then only add it at the end of your make-up. Most modern foundation and tinted moisturisers have a dry down period and if you powder immediately after you put on your foundation you may find that you look older, too powdery.
When it comes to wedding make-up for the older woman, proper application and right choice of cosmetics is imperative. If you follow my simple tips I know that you will look stunning.

Its my mum’s 50th birthday in March.
She would like a make up lesson, with hints and tips on how to wear make up age apropriately and create a youthful appearance!
Is this something that you offer? If so where are you based and how much do you charge? If not then can you recommend/suggest anywhere?
We are based just inside the M25 and can travel to London.
Many thanks
Beth
