How to create the right balance and let your make-up sparkle over 50

Article by Ariane Poole

This festive season it’s all about sparkle, shimmer and shine. It’s everywhere you look but none more so than in make-up. Every product seems to be infused with some kind of sparkle. The trick is striking the right balance so you create an exquisite feminine sexy look no matter what your age.
Pick key areas that you would like to accent. It is easy to go over the top so think of your make-up as you would your jewelry. And use it to accent and enhance.

You can choose shimmer in your 50s

Once you hit your 50s you may think that shimmer isn’t for you but you may be surprised. Choosing understated shades of shimmer will give you a more youthful, sophisticated sexy appearance. Think Icons – Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Andie McDowell and Julianne Moore. To give your complexion a smoother more radiant appearance start with a Retexturizing Face Primer. Next apply a Mineral Tint Foundation. I love using a foundation brush to apply foundation because it gives you an air brushed flawless look.

Illuminate your face and defuse fine lines

Illuminate your face with the Mineral Illuminating Pen in the colour of your choice. This is my magic wand. I use it to defuse fine lines and not so fine lines around the eyes, on the forehead and around the mouth. Instantly erases years. Define your brows. Now accent your eyes. I love my Fashionista Eye Palette because it brings together matte and shimmery shadows.  Define the eyes with either a Fog (charcoal grey) or Royalty (rich deep purple) Powder Pencil. Run the pencil along the base of the top lashes. For added definition and fuller looking lashes run my NEW Liquid Liner in Plum Fizz along the base of your top lashes. To really make your eyes stand out run a white eye pencil along the inner rim of the eyes. Finish the eyes with Navy mascara, to make the whites of the eyes look whiter. Apples of the cheeks should be flushed with a gentle rose cream or powder blush. Complete the look with a lip colour in a berry shade such as Newberry or Sugar Berry Luxury Gloss. Too nude lip colours can make you look tired.

If you are still sparkle shy but want to indulge try a shimmering body lotion to make you skin glisten. Or a sparkly nail varnish, I love Nails Inc.!!
