Who is Belinda Bum – How Not to Get Old Channel 4 Episode

who is Belinda Bum imageReview by Ceri Wheeldon

So who is Belinda Bum? In episode 2 of How Not To Get Old,  for me the stand out segment was the very lively ‘Belinda Bum’, who put Louise Redknapp through her paces with a very unique anti-ageing workout which seemed to comprise of very fast jerky movements.! Her ‘Monkey Chew’ facial exercises are said to do wonders when it comes to keeping nose to mouth lines at bay.

What a character!! Belinda looks fabulous with a figure most teenagers would aspire to. She is lively, energetic (an understatement), and gives nothing at all away about herself! There was no way Louise was going to get Belinda to give away her age on camera (good for her)- or anything else for that matter !

But who is Belinda Bum?

Could Belinda Bum be Belinda Scriven?

Well, I seem to have drawn a blank. Apart from having launched a twitter frenzy when she appeared on the programme, Belinda seems to be a well kept secret – she is as mysterious as her age! All that is revealed if you google her name is that she might be called Belinda Scriven who once appeared in a documentary and is described as a fitness guru. There appears to be no blog, no website, no facebook or Linkedin profile. Belinda would appear to be a hidden treasure that we would all love to find!

What about the rest of the programme? More talk on surgery and expensive and painful jaw tightening treatments- Belinda was the real star of the show – and a great role model  to show how to stay young at heart and not get old!

If anyone does know who Belinda Bum is – please- do share. We would all love some of her magic!

Also intrigued by Belinda ,but disappointed that the programme so far seems to concentrate on surgery rather than healthy eating , exercise etc. And what about the most about the most important anti aging organ our brains, outlook , curiosity, knowledge, empathy and enthusiasm play an enormous part , what goes on under the skin and inside the head dictate our enjoyment of life every bit as much as the ‘surface’ teach our daughters to value this as well please.

I would love to know more about Belinda Bum as I’d like more info on the excercises , it was such a short part of the show. Would be a more balanced programme it had at least 1 older presenter who needed a little help, then perhaps some of the weird treatments might work better. Plus more natural tips would be great as many of us don’t want or can’t afford surgical procedures.

Was also really interested in Belinda Bums section on the programme I have watched it twice, would be really interested in finding out more about her excercises. Would buy an excercise dvd if she has one as it seems real.

Can’t believe that they put this miracle fitness guru on a tv programme and no one can find out anything about her. I would certainly welcome some info on her fitness regime. She looks amazing, and what she says makes perfect sense. Maybe she is fitness guru to the stars only, Lesley Joseph seems to know her!!!!!! Come on ‘How Not to Look Old’ give us a clue.

Loved that segment too and searched for information. What really was the point of the show if there was no way to follow up on what looked like fab information. Quite frustrating.

I quick look around on 192 has come up with a 65+ year old woman living in St John’s Wood London. Under the name of Belinda Scriven. I’m not sure if this is the same lady, but it fits what little we all know about here from the program. If anyone manages to get in contact with her, please ask her nicely to put out a DVD, as I’m sure a lot of women would like to buy it. I wonder just how many women are doing the exercises in the program? Quite a few I would like to bet.

I did contact the tv production company and they confirmed that they have received a great amount of interest in Belinda Scriven. They also confirmed she has no website, no way of being contacted in fact. All they can do is to pass people’s information onto the lady herself.

Considering the number who seem to want to contact her, I have a feeling there would be too many and chances are she would contact no one! I hope she might contact me, but I really doubt it

Her exercises look interesting, but basically she is advocating the type of exercises a dancer would do at the barre or on the floor, including maintaining facial firmness with expression. Albeit very, very quickly. Her look is that of a dancer and I would suggest that she once was one. For example think of Audrey Hepburn and Margot Fontaine in their latter years. The only issue I have with her comments was that she referred to the fat-burning advantages of doing the movements quickly. Eg. To target the buttock area, and avoid building muscle, she advocates very fast leg-lifts. You CANNOT target particular fat cells for shrinkage by exercising that area. When you lose weight through diet or exercise, the fat cells shrink at the same rate throughout the body. If some areas remain fat, it is because you have more fat cells in that area. Her exercises lengthen or tone or tighten (whatever you want to call it) the muscle fibres in the areas she is working out. The vigour of the routine will burn calories and thereby reduce the size of fat cells – throughout the body.
