  1. Review: Skinceuticals HA Intensifier

    skinceuticals HA intensifier
Review by Ceri Wheeldon Hyaluronic acid in cosmetic treatments is known to plump the skin and help it to retain moisture – after all it is the key ingredient in the filers used in non-surgical cosmetic injections. and it is increasingly being used in cosmetic products.  Hyaluronic Acid can absorb up to 1000 times its own weight in water, and as our own naturally depletes with age,  skin becomes drier, resulting in lines and sagging I am always keen to find viable options other than botox and fillers to help maintain- and even reverse  the signs of ageing and so  I was interested to see how effective a serum with a high concentration of hyraluronic acid could be. H.A.  intensifier is a corrective serum proven to improve skin plumpness and firmness and texture...
  2. Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum Review

Revire Murad Retinol youth renewal serum
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I am a huge fan of Murad products, and have not been disappointed yet in any of the products in the range. Retinol is a much talked about skincare ingredient, and so I was pleased to see that Murad had launched a Retinol Youth Renewal Serum .  Utilising Retinol Tri-active technology,  the Youth Renewal Serum is  supposed to quickly and visibly minimise fine lines and wrinkles. It contains fast acting retinoid to promote cell turnover, time released retinol to sustain the benefits and a retinol booster to increase its effectiveness. It also contains hyaluronic acid to attract moisture in the deeper layers of the skin. Applied in a thin layer at night, it is extremely light and quickly absorbed into the skin. My skin immediately felt smoother...
  3. A video review of Studio 10 Makeup’s QVC offer

    Studio 10 makeup QVC offer
Review by Ceri Wheeldon   I had a lot of questions following a recent video review of the NEWA skin tightening device about the makeup I used – especially as it stayed in place despite me smothering my face in gel during the demonstration.  I made a separate video listing all the products I used.  I use quite a few Studio 10 makeup products in my daily routine   – and I love the serum – but it isn’t cheap – so it’s a great idea to look out for special offers.  As well as Studio 10’s own website and M&S  the range is sold on QVC and  it’s always worth keeping an eye out on QVC as often they  ‘bundle’ products together-  which they are doing at the moment. ...
  4. NEWA device update and details of the makeup I wore in the video – as requested

Article by Ceri Wheeldon I promised an update to my initial  NEWA review –  which I used 5 times a week for 6 weeks and then twice a week afterwards. I  noticed  a significant difference 6 weeks after starting  –  I did a little research which indicated that it takes 6 weeks for collagen to regenerate – so  this explains why  the area around  my crows feet continues to improve. A photographer friend commented that the light still ‘bounces’  off my skin – which she says is unusual  by the time you reach my age – not  too sure how much of a compliment that is! Answering questions about my makeup When I did the original NEWA review I had people asking me how I managed to have my makeup stay in place during the demonstration as I was applying the gel to activate the current in the...
  5. Review of Newa – skin tightening device to soften crows feet and firm up jawline

Review by Ceri Wheeldon When I asked the readers of Fab after Fifty what their main skincare concerns were – the main concern was not wrinkles as I had expected, but sagging skin. So what can we do at home to counter sagging skin? There are many lotions and potions developed to help counter the effect of ageing – but what about other treatments, and specifically home based treatments that can help ? I tried the NEWA skin tightening device, which claims to help firm skin (great for a sagging jawline) AND help diminish wrinkles, particularly crows feet. The NEWA device is the only home use skin tightening device that is FDA approved. So I had high expectations. How do you use the NEWA device?   I have put together a...
  6. Review: Avon Anew Reversalist Tried and Tested

Product Review by Patricia I tried a 3 mini pot package of Avon Anew Reversalist which comprised a cleanser, daycream and nightcream. Here are my comments  Description of product: small pots of skin care and cleanser in a neat package very pleasant and easy to use ideal size for travelling took up little space but was very effective in keeping my skin looking and feeling good.  More than ample for a 2 week holiday. What are the active ingredients? According to the Avon website it restores vitality with Tri-Elastinex Technology and an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), to help renew, regenerate and reconstruct, for visibly firmer skin. The daycream also incorporates an SPF of 25. How is it used? How often? Morning and night How easy is it to use? Smooths on easily. I particularly liked the...
  7. My top skin tips for the party season

skincar tips for mature women image
by Miss Jonquille Chantrey  As a surgeon and skin specialist my work has taken me around the world researching skin function, complex skin types, skin grafting and burns.  However, I see patients everyday that are confused about basic level skincare and tired of wasting money on creams that don’t work – should I use a cream or a serum, or both? As we approach the depths of Winter I thought I’d share some key points on protecting your skin in the cold months ahead whilst getting it smooth and radiant for the party season. Protect your lips The skin layers of the lips are only three to five cellular layers thick, much thinner than the rest of the face that can be up to sixteen layers thick.  A lack...
  8. Product Review: True North Body Lotion, Hand Creme and Lip Balm tried and tested

Anti-ageing skincare products for hand and body tried and rested inage
Review by Ceri Wheeldon When it comes to caring for mature skin in winter, I always think skin needs an extra boost to combat the drying effect of central heating indoors, and the chilly weather outdoors. I assumed the Scandinavians would know a thing or two about skincare during cold weather and so decided to try the Moisturising Body Lotion, Nourishing Hand Creme and Lip Balm from True North. TRUE NORTH Moisturising Body Lotion TRUE NORTH Moisturising Body Lotion comes in a pump action bottle.  A little goes a long way. It is easily absorbed into the skin, and skin instantly feels softer – and soothed. It is hard to describe the scent – it is very subtle and ‘fresh’ – which I prefer as it...
  9. Product review: B. Nourished Skincare for mature skin

Review by Patricia B. Nourished advanced serum, daycream, night cream and  eyecream is a range of skincare products developed for women in their 50s and 60s. We asked Pat to try out the range. This is what she had to say about B.Nourished after using for a month. Is there a specific problem this product is supposed to address? If so, what is it? Care and nourishment of the skin reducing wrinkles Description of product: serum, daycream. nightcream. and eyecream What are the active ingredients? Palmitoyl tripeptide Spanish needle plantain vitamin b3 How is it used? How often? Smoothed on day and night How easy is it to use? The day cream is a little thicker than normal and needed gently working in but well worth it.  The other creams were lighter but felt just as...
  10. All you need to know about Age Spots

    what are age spots
By world renowned skincare expert Lorena Oberg As we all know very well, when we get older our body begins to be less responsive and resilient to the elements. Whether it be the smile lines that don’t quite flatten out after a good laugh or noticing additional brown patches after a holiday in the sun. For a lucky few, pigmentation spots won’t affect you but for those Fab After Fifty readers who suffer from age spots, this is my go to guide. What are Age Spots and why do we get them? Age spots, also known as liver spots or sunspots, are flat brown or black spots on the skin. As we age, the melanin (the part of your skin which gives it colour) becomes more active. This means it is more responsive to...
