  1. Could this be the best eye cream for depuffing eyes? Merumaya Intensely Youthful Eye Cream

Review by Ceri Wheeldon I tend to live my life as though I’m on roller skates at the moment – very little time for any pampering.  I have my makeup routine down to less than 5 minutes  (thanks to Ariane Poole’s fab tips!) so when I literally glanced in the mirror as I scrambled for my eye pencil it just struck me that my eyes looked different, but I couldn’t quite figure out why!  So I looked more closely. More of my eyelid was visible than usual and the whole eye area was less puffy. Feeling very grateful to whichever fairy godmother had decided to sprinkle some magic eye dust on me, I hastily finished getting ready and dashed out to continue my day. It wasn’t until that night when I was removing my makeup that it struck me. The only thing I had done differently was use a new...
  2. Review of Lulu’ s Time Bomb Complexion Cocktail with a shot of B12

    Time Bomb Complexion Cocktail
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I am a huge fan of the Time Bomb range  – I particularly like the Blast to the Past dermabrasion product  and Miracle Glo – I never travel without them, so was keen to see if the Time Bomb Complexion Cocktail would live up to my expectations. Aimed to be used when skin looking less than its best, the Complexion Cocktail claims to give an instant boost to tired, puffy skin. Based on the same premise of shots of vitamin B12 being given to patients who are run down, the Complexion Cocktail is a tonic which is able to instantly revitalise tired skin. But does it work? I put Complexion Cocktail to the test on a day when I (and my skin)  was far from my best having got up at 4 am for an early flight and arrived home absolutely shattered and dehydrated. My reflection...
  3. How Vitamin C products can benefit mature skin

Review Medik8 vitamin C serum image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon Vitamin C has been used throughout history by women looking to lighten their skin – I can remember my grandmother being adamant that pressing half a lemon on the backs of her hands would diminish her age spots. Not too sure that quite worked, but it seems vitamin C is clinically proven to have skin brightening properties, and when applied topically in the right way can improve skin tone. The problem up until now, it seems, is that one of the best forms of vitamin C (L-asorbic acid), with its great anti-oxidant properties, is very unstable and degrades very quickly and loses its effectives when applied to the skin. A new product, Medik8 CE-Thione has found a way around this problem. They refer to it as being ‘rechargeable vitamin C’. It is recharged by two antioxidant “buddies” Vitamin E & Gluthione which work in synergy with...
  4. Product Review: Ogario London’s Restore and Shine Hair Masque tried and tested

    ogario hair masque review image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I am always looking for products that can tame my hair- which being incredibly curly, has a mind of its own- and has a tendency towards being dry – especially at the ends. I have noticed taht my hair has become drier and coarser in my 50s. I was thrilled to come across Ogario London’s Restore and Shine Hair Masque which I shall now think of as my ‘rescue remedy’ on bad hair days. My hair was particularly lacklustre following a flu bug and needed more help than my everyday conditioners could offer. The masque itself has a lovely citrus smell and a rich, creamy consistency.  The instructions indicate that you apply after shampooing and concentrate on the ends. You leave on for ten minutes ( just about the right amount of time to apply a face mask or exfoliating treatment if you want to use...
  5. Product Review: Bioeffect Body Intensive and Bioeffect Daytime Cream.

    Bioeffect review image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I always like to share skincare products that really make a difference. I suffer terribly from dry skin on my lower legs. I have no idea why it only affects my legs- I have tried all sorts of lotions and potions, body brushing- lots of things with no difference. I had previously used Bioeffect EGF serum on my face with great results, and discovered that they now had a new Body Intensive lotion ( I read about in an inflight magazine) I thought it was definitely worth  giving a try. It is a highly concentrated clear liquid, and  you only need quite literally a drop per arm and leg. It sinks straight into the skin, instantly making the skin feel softer.  The skin on my legs in particular has improved dramatically, the itching has disappeared, and the skin on my arms feels far softer. It was...
  6. Have Fab nails for the party season – SensatioNail review – home gel nail manicure

    SensatioNail starter kit image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I love my nails to look good, but have resisted gel nail manicures on the basis that I really didn’t want to get hooked in to having regular salon manicures, from a time and a cost perspective. I appreciated the fact that  gel nail manicures could last up to 2 weeks, but still preferred to continue with my traditional nail varnish knowing that I could always top up at home at a moment’s notice. Although I am always quite envious of those who do have great nails! I was pleased to find a home based kit SensatioNail which was surprisingly easy to use , and the results of my first gel manicure lasted almost 2 weeks. It would probably have lasted a little longer if it wasn’t for the fact that I am currently living in a building site, with my hands and nails taking a...
  7. Revitabrow review – making brows grow thicker- tried and tested

    Comment
    revitabrow image
Review by Deb Hunt Brows thin and become sparser as we age. Sparse eyebrows are also a problem for those women whose brows have not grown back following chemotherapy treatment. Michael Brinkenhoff, the founder of RevitaLash®, is dedicated to giving back to the community which originally influenced his development of the product. Intensive chemotherapy treatments caused his wife’s once-luscious eyelashes and brows  to become thin and brittle. As a practicing ophthalmologist for over 25 years, Brinkenhoff committed his research to creating a product that would restore the natural beauty of his wife’s brows and  eyelashes. Does RevitaBrow work? We previously featured Deb Hunt as one of our ‘Fabwomen’.  Following her own treatment for Breast Cancer, Deb climbed Kilimanjaro o raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Deb seemed the obvious choice to put the RevitaBrow product to the test! RivitaBrow says “Taking advantage of the power of peptides and botanicals, the conditioner will...
  8. Product review Lulu’s Miracle Glo perfecting glotion – Tried and tested

Lulu's miracle glo younger looking skin image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I have always taken care of my skin, I keep my face out of the sun as much as possible (or wear high-factor sunscreen when out and about) and am fanatical about removing my make-up at night and using good quality products. There are times though when my skin can still look a little dull, even when I have followed all of Ariane Poole’s make up tips! Adds a youthful healthy glow to skin I am always open minded when it comes to trying new skincare products, and so was pleased to see that there is a new product which you use after applying make-up, to give skin a more youthful, healthy glow. Miracle Glo is also a firm favourite with Lulu, so I was more than happy to give it a go. Described as ‘acting like a make-up artist in a bottle’,  you simply dab...
  9. Avon Anew Pro Line Corrector Treatment with A F33 review – Tried and Tested Anti-ageing product review

    Comment
    avon af33 product image
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Avon’s new Anew Pro Line Corrector with A F33 is describes as the ultimate in fighting deep lines and wrinkles. With so much ‘buzz’ about this product in the anti-ageing skincare market, I had to try it for myself. Does it work? My skin certainly feels firmer as a result of using, what is difficult to assess is whether it has an effect on deep lines. I’m not sure. I couldn’t really see a visible difference in my crows feet, but I can see how Anew Pro Line Corrector could be helpful in the preventing additional lines, or softening fine lines as it did have a positive  effect on overall skin tone and luminosity. An alternative to botox? I’m not sure that it had any significant impact on deeper wrinkles – so I do not believe it will be a substitute for those who have botox...
  10. Tips for smoother skin without adding more time to your beauty routine

    Dove_Original_deodorant image
Article by Ceri Wheeldon I always like use products that do more than one thing – I’m far too busy to do ‘body by numbers’! I think as we get older our skin gets drier. When I remember I do ‘body brush’ in order to help improve overall circulation and skin tone, but I have found that simple things like shower gels and deodorants that were former favourites can tend to have a drying effect on the skin. I have also found myself increasingly using products which moisturise as well as cleanse, and if you look at my previous reviews you will see that I have been a long time fan of Dove products – and have used their moisturising body wash for some time. With a long weekend planned in the South of France, and the prospect of wearing sleeveless tops looming, I wanted my skin to look its...
