    Bioeffect review image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I always like to share skincare products that really make a difference. I suffer terribly from dry skin on my lower legs. I have no idea why it only affects my legs- I have tried all sorts of lotions and potions, body brushing- lots of things with no difference. I had previously used Bioeffect EGF serum on my face with great results, and discovered that they now had a new Body Intensive lotion ( I read about in an inflight magazine) I thought it was definitely worth  giving a try. It is a highly concentrated clear liquid, and  you only need quite literally a drop per arm and leg. It sinks straight into the skin, instantly making the skin feel softer.  The skin on my legs in particular has improved dramatically, the itching has disappeared, and the skin on my arms feels far softer. It was...
  2. Have Fab nails for the party season – SensatioNail review – home gel nail manicure

    SensatioNail starter kit image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I love my nails to look good, but have resisted gel nail manicures on the basis that I really didn’t want to get hooked in to having regular salon manicures, from a time and a cost perspective. I appreciated the fact that  gel nail manicures could last up to 2 weeks, but still preferred to continue with my traditional nail varnish knowing that I could always top up at home at a moment’s notice. Although I am always quite envious of those who do have great nails! I was pleased to find a home based kit SensatioNail which was surprisingly easy to use , and the results of my first gel manicure lasted almost 2 weeks. It would probably have lasted a little longer if it wasn’t for the fact that I am currently living in a building site, with my hands and nails taking a...

effect of menopause on skin image
Article by by Michelle Baker. I first heard about the menopause as a child when my Mum and Nan talked about in hushed tones.  Then one day, my mum announced ‘I’m going through the change darling!’  After listening to her long list of complaints (and experiencing her moods) I was so glad that I had years ahead of me before I even had to consider it. Although it came at the normal time (late 40’s) it was still a shock when my GP informed me I was peri-menopausal.  And who was the first person I called?  My mum of course!  The interesting thing for me was how my mum just accepted physical changes that took place, especially the aspect of accelerated ageing. When I complained to my mum about that and asked how she dealt with it, she was non-plussed…‘really? Is that why my skin got so dry and spotty?’...
  4. Revitabrow review – making brows grow thicker- tried and tested

    revitabrow image
Review by Deb Hunt Brows thin and become sparser as we age. Sparse eyebrows are also a problem for those women whose brows have not grown back following chemotherapy treatment. Michael Brinkenhoff, the founder of RevitaLash®, is dedicated to giving back to the community which originally influenced his development of the product. Intensive chemotherapy treatments caused his wife’s once-luscious eyelashes and brows  to become thin and brittle. As a practicing ophthalmologist for over 25 years, Brinkenhoff committed his research to creating a product that would restore the natural beauty of his wife’s brows and  eyelashes. Does RevitaBrow work? We previously featured Deb Hunt as one of our ‘Fabwomen’.  Following her own treatment for Breast Cancer, Deb climbed Kilimanjaro o raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Deb seemed the obvious choice to put the RevitaBrow product to the test! RivitaBrow says “Taking advantage of the power of peptides and botanicals, the conditioner will...

Lulu's miracle glo younger looking skin image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I have always taken care of my skin, I keep my face out of the sun as much as possible (or wear high-factor sunscreen when out and about) and am fanatical about removing my make-up at night and using good quality products. There are times though when my skin can still look a little dull, even when I have followed all of Ariane Poole’s make up tips! Adds a youthful healthy glow to skin I am always open minded when it comes to trying new skincare products, and so was pleased to see that there is a new product which you use after applying make-up, to give skin a more youthful, healthy glow. Miracle Glo is also a firm favourite with Lulu, so I was more than happy to give it a go. Described as ‘acting like a make-up artist in a bottle’,  you simply dab...

    Tooth whitening booklet image
Article by Francesca Keen Whiter teeth can be perceived as more youthful. With so many tooth whitening treatments on offer, how do we know which are are safe to use? Acting Head of Illegal Practice at the General Dental Council, Francesca Keen, talks us through the latest developments on issues involving tooth whitening. Tooth whitening, is something we get asked about a lot. The last 18 months have proved to be quite eventful in the field of tooth whitening with a number of significant milestones. There has been significant press about it, some of it positive and some of it incorrect. The GDC’s stance remains the same; tooth whitening may only lawfully be provided by those who are registered dental professionals.  Who can carry out tooth whitening?  We believe that tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry, which should only be performed by GDC registrants. If you’re thinking about getting...
  7. Avon Anew Pro Line Corrector Treatment with A F33 review – Tried and Tested Anti-ageing product review

    Comment
    avon af33 product image
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Avon’s new Anew Pro Line Corrector with A F33 is describes as the ultimate in fighting deep lines and wrinkles. With so much ‘buzz’ about this product in the anti-ageing skincare market, I had to try it for myself. Does it work? My skin certainly feels firmer as a result of using, what is difficult to assess is whether it has an effect on deep lines. I’m not sure. I couldn’t really see a visible difference in my crows feet, but I can see how Anew Pro Line Corrector could be helpful in the preventing additional lines, or softening fine lines as it did have a positive  effect on overall skin tone and luminosity. An alternative to botox? I’m not sure that it had any significant impact on deeper wrinkles – so I do not believe it will be a substitute for those who have botox...

    Dove_Original_deodorant image
Article by Ceri Wheeldon I always like use products that do more than one thing – I’m far too busy to do ‘body by numbers’! I think as we get older our skin gets drier. When I remember I do ‘body brush’ in order to help improve overall circulation and skin tone, but I have found that simple things like shower gels and deodorants that were former favourites can tend to have a drying effect on the skin. I have also found myself increasingly using products which moisturise as well as cleanse, and if you look at my previous reviews you will see that I have been a long time fan of Dove products – and have used their moisturising body wash for some time. With a long weekend planned in the South of France, and the prospect of wearing sleeveless tops looming, I wanted my skin to look its...

    Lulu's Time Bomb dermabrasionproduct image
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I always like to share my beauty finds that work, I tend to try products at home rather than book regular facials at a salon. As we get older our skin’s ability to renew itself slows down. Dull looking skin can have the effect of making us look tired. So how can we achieve skin that has a healthy glow, especially over 50? Despite wearing sun screen my skin had taken a bit of a battering during a visit to Brittany, where lots of healthy long walks had also exposed me to all elements (except snow!) I needed positive action. I regularly exfoliate my skin, but do find some exfoliaters have a tendency to leave my skin feeling a little red and even dry. Enter Lulu’s Time Bomb Blast to the Past dermabrasion product to the rescue. I applied a small amount to damp skin and...
