  1. Dresses with Sleeves 2016 : Day One : chic and simple monochrome

Post by Ceri Wheeldon Back by popular demand! I have received so many requests to relaunch this series, so here is the first Dress with Sleeves for 2016 – not sure I’ll get to 50 dresses this time around – but will do my best!   I have chosen this simple, monochrome shift dress to start this series – I think the lace detail at the hem and sleeves give the dress a more contemporary look. Great for dressing up- or down. The sleeve length is just below the elbow – so covers bingo wings while keeping the look ‘fresh’.   Wear with flat pumps for relaxed daytime look or heels for heels for a more formal occasion. I love pointed toe flats – I think they are so much more...

    colout and mood image
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Does the colour we wear affect our mood?  According to a recent study of 2000 Brits it suggests it does! Half of Brits say the colours they wear directly affect their moods Four in ten say their mood can change if they put on a different colour Black is the colour of choice for those feeling both stressed and angry Nearly a fifth of Brits wear only black or neutral tones, with 40 per cent of our wardrobes taken up with black clothes The majority of Brits (43 per cent) say that yellow is the colour to wear when feeling happy   According to respondents, a green outfit is a sign of intelligence, blue shows you’re reliable, white suggests you’re traditional, yellow says you’re happy and good humoured, while pink suggests immaturity and should...
  3. 12 Styling Tips to Look Fabulous Over 50

    50plus style tips
Article by Fi Ivin For many decades most of us women have negotiated the stuff life throws at us and survived! Survived well and grown because of what life threw at us but nothing, quite, seems to prepare us for one thing we can’t control – the action of nature on our bodies post menopause. Yet here’s what can seem like an insurmountable obstacle –  the stereotypes of what it means to be ok as a woman that we can’t possibly live up to as our furniture heads south! Looking good is good for you at any age – it increases your confidence and you interact with more positivity which improves your relationships! It’s a win – win scenario really. –  If you need any more proof, check out the...
  4. Where can I find elegant evening dresses for women over 50?

Article by Ceri Wheeldon Where can I find elegant evening dresses for women over 50? This is a question I am often asked, especially now that the trend  in stores and on the red carpet seems to be for lower and lower  necklines and seemingly up to the waist ‘thigh’ splits. I have found several from an online brand called Gorgeous Couture that fit the bill. They are stylish, elegant- and even those without sleeves are elegant rather than leaving you over exposed.  All four styles come in a variety of colours. I hope you like my choices! This elegant full length black dress (available in several colours...
  5. Dresses with sleeves – fabulous dress for work for a professional look over 50.

    dresses with sleeves for work
Article by Ceri Wheeldon To look, professional, chic and ‘current’  in the workplace,  a shift dress, with sleeves is a great choice. Look for fabrics with some ‘give’ that wont crease throughout the day. I made the mistake early in my career of buying some fabulous linen skirts and dresses which great when I left the house in the morning, but left me looking like a crumpled paper bag by lunchtime! I think the key to looking professional is in part to dress ‘agelessly’ and choosing the right shift dress can really help acheive this. I love this black pinstripe dress from Baukjen –  in a thick stretch jersey it looks chic while being comfortable at the same time. Add a statement necklace to take you from day to evening. Ageless...
  6. Dresses with sleeves: Red for the festive season

    Style pick by Ceri Wheeldon

    coast red lace dress

I love the simple lines of this red lace dress. The bell sleeves add a contemporary twist to a classic style. This is a timeless dress foe ageless dressing to look fabulously stylish over 50.

Add heels and a neat clutch bag . This dress will take you from lunch with girlfriends to Christmas parties with a just a quick change of accessories. I would wear with dramatic drop earrings  for parties to turn on the glitz.

Cost: £119 (reduced to £95.20 at time of writing) from Coast

  7. Style over 50: Fabulous separates for the party season

Article by Ceri Wheeldon   There are times when dressing for the party season when relaxed glamour by cleverly combining separates does the trick.  I love the versatility of separates-  you can dress down a sequin skirt with a plain sweater for a pared down look and a party top with jeans for casual glamour. I’ve picked out some of my favourites. Bardot Style Top I am always a great fan of the Bardot style neckline.  This one from Baukjen  will carry you through the party season but will also look fabulous with white jeans in the summer.   Cost: £59 from Baukjen     Sequin skirt A classic with...
  8. Style over 50: 7 of my favourite Little Black Dresses

Article by Ceri Wheeldon It’s that time of year when I take out my Little Black Dresses to dress up (or down) for the party season. I’m always tempted to add another to my collection- here’s a selection available to choose from at the moment.   I love the simplicity of this dress from Gorgeous Couture – it doesn’t have sleeves but it does give coverage at the upper arms – I think this is a great timeless classic to have in the wardrobe   Cost:  £139 from GorgeousCouture.Com     This Bardot style dress has looks chic AND covers the arms, it also has ruching to help minimise tums. ...
  9. Layering with a kimono – day and evening looks

Article by Ceri Wheeldon Although I seem to be known through Fab after Fifty for my dresses with sleeves, as most of my friends will tell you they hardly ever see me wear dresses – I mostly wear jeans ( of various colours)  and trousers and am a huge fan of layering. When I was asked by Marisota if I would take part in a style project for  fashion week  as part of Marisota Shapeology Fashion Week and create some looks around one of the key trends –  I just had to choose layering ….and I chose the most dramatic of the items on the list to layer with – a monochrome kimono. Why play it safe? !! The only difference for me was rather than style a mannequin (as...
