    Article by Ceri Wheeldon The latest employment figures show the over 50 s as having the largest rise in long term unemployment, and many of those finding work accepting part-time roles. Many of us in our 50s  have found ourselves in situations we could never have imagined a decade ago – underemployed or unemployed. With no sign of the economy improving in the short term how does this impact anyone in this situation? Are there any solutions? What do you do if your income from your  part-time employment falls far short of meeting your requirements? Personally I cannot stress enough the need to remember that anyone currently in their 50s is far from at the end of their working life. However, TAEN – The Age and Employment Network argues that the rise likely reflects the growing financial worries of older people.      Article by Fabafterfity  It is crucial that today’s over 50s are aware of their legal rights regarding ageism in the workplace, especially in light of  employment figures released today.  Responding to today’s Labour Market Statistics from the Office for National Statistics, TAEN The Age and Employment Network has expressed concern that the redundancy rate for the over-50s stands at 5.5%, higher than any other working age group over 25 and TAEN  warns that this is likely to rise even higher as public sector job losses take hold. The over 50s also contains the highest proportion of people likely to have been unemployed or claiming JobSeekers Allowance for 12 months or more. Overall, the number of people in work between the ages of 50 and 64 fell by 24,000 in the last quarter to 7.29 million and economic inactivity among this age group rose by 67,000 in the past three months...
