Dukan Diet Day 20- Added benefits for Hair?

With the arrival of the Dukan Diet book this week I have had the chance to read through and understand a lot more. I am now firmly in the ‘Cruise’ phase of the diet, where I am alternating my protein days with the addition of vegetables which I can select from a list of 28 options.

Now that I have the book, complete with recipes, the Dukan diet does not appear as strict as I had thought- with recipes for chicken with tarragon and lemon, Indian chicken , and a special white sauce for fish it seems  a lot more appetising and hence should be easier to stick to as I don’t feel  I am depriving myself quite so harshly!

I was pleased to see that there is an excellent chapter with additional hints for menopausal women, including suggestions of how to maintain your existing weight if you are starting HRT without having to work through all 4 stages of the Dukan diet programme.

I am working hard to stick with it, the fact that I was able to wear a particular dress on Friday which I would not have been able to even think about 3 weeks ago, has given me that extra dose of motivation.

I’m still not yet able to wear THE dress lined up for Ascot, but am hoping I will be able to do so by the middle of June!

An extra thought, I was lucky enough to meet  hairdresser Andrew Barton (of Ten Years Younger), and as he watched me stick to my protein at lunch and turn down dessert (it was chocolate with edible gold leaf and looked delicious- that was tough!) he also commented that a protein diet was excellent for hair health, especially if eaten for breakfast – so I am hoping to have healthier hair as well!

I still have more energy and feel so much better in myself since starting.

I have also been asked if I would like to put my questions about the diet directly to Dr Dukan later this week when he is in the UK for the launch of the book, so please feel free to add to the comments box- I can’t guarantee that I will be able to ask them all but will do my best.

    I too am on the Dukan diet and have been since Christmas. Unfortunately I’ve been diagnosed with an under active thyroid for which I’m taking medication. I say unfortunately because it means anything you try is slow. I would normally lose interest and give up but the Dukan diet has kept the interest there along with determination and lack of cravings. I’ve lost 2 stone and would ideally like to lose another 2. I keep in touch with a forum where other dieters post recipes and encouragement. My husband cooks the family meals and I intersperse these with Dukan friendly recipies that I think they would all enjoy and that are incredibly healthy too. What I have found is how amazing I feel and how horrid I feel when I slip up by eating wheat or sugars. A definite plus to my energy and lifestyle. I feel better at 53 than I did at 40.

    I’ve been doing the Dukan Diet since 1st September 2011, that’s nearly 4 month, now in Stage 3 the diet has been a godsend in many ways: not only have I lost weight (nearly 2 stone); I’ve lost 4 inches from my waist and am now a 32-33 inch waist and my personal diet has improved greatly – I wasn’t hugely overweight (6’1″ and 16 stone, well built rather than fat at the start, I’m now a trim 14.2 stone), but I always had a love for junk food and a very sweet tooth. The diet has re-taught my body what’s good and what’s bad, so when I do falter and have something naughty my body gets rid of it as quickly as possible, which is great. What I have also found is my skin is a lot better; never feels greasy, nails grow faster, and yes, hair grows faster too. as a man though there’s a downside – I have to shave sometimes more than once a day, and get my hair cut now every 2-3 weeks rather than every 5 as before. I really recommend the diet to anyone, and have done to friends, who have had similar success. One very overweight man I know has lost 4 stone in 2 months, and a lady has dropped a full dress size in 2 weeks.
