For women over 50 looking in the mirror and seeing gravity take its toll as we age is not much fun, but is it possible to really fight back? I decided to try one of the latest skin tightening and contouring treatments which suggests we can combat those ageing jowls.
Thermage CPT is a skin tightening treatment, which uses radiofrequency to stimulate the body’s own collagen production. It is a treatment which can be used for upper arms, abdomen , thighs and knees as well as the face.
I arrived at the Cosmetic Skin Clinic having already had a consultation explaining the treatment and confirming and my suitability for it. I was further encouraged by Rula Lenska who had had the treatment before me and was anticipating great results.
The CPT version of Thermage has been developed to be both more comfortable and more effective than the original version. Results are achieved up to 6 months following the treatment, before and after photos on the Thermage website certainly show impressive results. As well as tightening, the treatment is also able to contour the face.
If I was expecting a relaxing treatment allowing me the chance of an afternoon snooze, it soon became clear that this was not to be the case!
Following my face being thoroughly cleansed, a temporary ‘grid ’transfer was applied across my face and a thick layer of gel applied. The Thermage CPT ‘ tip’ was then applied to points on the grid (on my face) to heat and tighten the collagen in the deeper layers of my skin. As the Thermage tip was applied to each part of my face, I experienced a deep ‘heat’ sensation as the deeper layers of my shin were heated to stimulate the collagen. The tip applied a cooling sensation to the surface layers of the skin.
The treatment took about 45 minutes.
To be perfectly honest, this was not the most comfortable cosmetic treatment I’ve had. The treatment can be set at different levels of intensity/heat. Within reason, the higher the level you can withstand, the greater the effectiveness of the treatment. Running with the philosophy of ‘no pain, no gain’ I stayed with a high level throughout, with words of encouragement and reassurance from Frances , the practitioner conducting the treatment. The end goal of a firmer jawline kept me going. It was definitely a relief when it was over! An improvement in my jowl area could be seen immediately afterwards, but the full effect is not likely to be evident for at least 2 – 3 months.
I can expect to see further improvements over the next 3- 6 months and am told the results could last for years- I will keep you posted with the results!
