We all spend time looking after our faces, and fortunes on serums, creams and facials in our attempts to stop the years showing on ourfaces, but often it’s our hands which really give away age.
So what can we do to have younger looking hands?
Prevention is always better than a cure and it’s never too late to start looking after your hands. I’m told that I have young looking hands (presumably that’s a nice way of saying that my face looks old!), sohere are my top tips!
- Wear sunscreen daily
- Always wear household gloves when doing the washing up/handwashing etc. If you apply your handcream just before putting on your gloves and plunging them into the hot water this works as a ‘mini’ treatment.
- Exfoliate regularly- I make my own hand exfoliater using rock salt and olive oil
- Invest in a good quality handcream ( Clarins has an excellent nail and hand cream, no matter which ones I try I always come back to it).
- Always dry hands thoroughly after washing, and use handcream immediately afterwards
Hand rejuvenation Treatment options:
For ‘age spots’ treatments such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing are available- always make sure you go to a reputable clinic
For ‘veiny’ hands, treatments such as a course of Restylane Vital , which rehydrates and plumps the skin can be very effective, especially when combined with a microneedling treatment (such as dermaroller) which stimulates collagen production. I know one person who tried the treatment on just one hand as an experiment– the difference between her two hands was remarkable- she is now having the second hand done! Again this treatment should only be carried out by a qualified medical practitioner.
