IPL Photorejuvenation Explained

Article by Dr Tracy Mountford

As the population ages, ever-increasing numbers of people are interested in improving their appearance. IPL treatments can be used to help restore the skin’s youthful appearance.

Intense Pulsed Light (“IPL”) Photorejuvenation is a non – invasive treatment breakthrough that erases skin damage without disruption of the skin’s surface, hence no downtime.
It can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial imperfections safely and effectively such as broken capillaries, skin discolouration, age spots, freckles, sun damage, mottled pigmentation and rosacea. It also improves enlarged pores and dull complexions to give a smoother, revitalized skin. The skin feels tighter and looks firmer. The same treatment can be used highly effectively on the neck, chest and hands.

How IPL works

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated and pulses of light are applied. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging them. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.
Usually a course of treatments is recommended by an Aesthetic Medical Practitioner and the number of treatments required would be discussed at the time of the initial consultation, as it varies from patient to patient. This provides excellent long-term results and minimal adverse effects. It offers a safe, dramatically rejuvenating treatment that can be tailored to your own individual skin condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction.
IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation often consist of full-face treatment or treatment of isolated body areas like the hands or chest. The treatment regimen typically consists of four to six treatments administered at three week intervals
Each treatment takes about 20 minutes and you can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.
Patients are very pleased with treatment results because the process treats the full face, neck, chest or hands, rather than addressing a single isolated area or imperfection. With a series of treatments, IPL technology can help restore a more youthful appearance without patient downtime or a prolonged recovery necessary after other types of treatments.

Costs for this treatment start from £150.
