Do You Suffer from Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes?

Before tear trough treament

Article by Dr Tracy Mountford

Have you noticed as you get older that you can’t get away with working hard and playing hard so much as you could in your thirties? The dark puffy circles under our eyes are harder to disguise? You may find that using a concealer  goes some way to eliminating them but when you take your make-up off the bare truth is still there and even though you may feel great the reflection in the mirror shows an ageing face!

Self help for dark circles

There are some things you can do to help yourself; getting a minimum of 8 hours good quality sleeping, drinking plenty of water, and reducing alcohol and nicotine intake all help! If all this fails there are other alternatives to help eliminate the dark and puffy eyed look:

Treatment options for dark circles and puffy eyes

An alternative approach is *Tear trough treatment where dermal fillers are used to treat the hollow/dark circle under the eye area and the upper cheek; this softens the tear trough to eliminate the tired look, creating a refreshed appearance.

Thermage treatment for eyes

For eyes that are crêpey or baggy ‘Thermage Eyes’ is a non-invasive radio frequency skin tightening treatment which is fabulous for tightening the skin around the eyes and is the only FDA approved treatment device for eyelid skin. This treatment will give you:

  •  Brighter looking eyes that appear more lifted and less tired
  •  Smoother, tighter skin around the eyes
  •  Reduced under eye sagging and tauter contours around the eyes
  •  Reduced hooding to reveal more of the eyelid
  •  Softening of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Smoother skin on the eyelids, enabling easier application of make-up

This treatment takes less than an hour and there is no downtime. You can leave with your make up on ready to go about your normal duties.

*Tear trough treatment is a highly specialised treatment. When consulting a practitioner it is recommended that you ask how many procedures the practitioner has performed.

My problem is that I get extremely itchy eyes. OTC Eye Drops don’t make a difference…

I have dry eye which the majority of drops don’t make any difference to the condition. Following recommendation from an optician I have been using Lacri Lube ointment for years now, it is a clear gel in a small tube. You can now buy it over the counter at any chemist.

My puffiness around eyes has almost gone with Sakare Eye care. I apply both their eye cream and eye serum on a daily basis. They keep my sensitive areas around eyes perfectly moisturized and nourished. They don’t even cause any irritation and help me look fresh even in the evening after working all day long.
