There are some books I just don’t want to finish! I love finding those ‘magic’ books that draw you in, you don’t want to put down, but don’t want to finish as turning the last page is like saying goodbye to an friend.
There are some books I’ll happily pass on to friends and family to read, but those magical ones that I have to keep close by knowing that I will have to be reacquainted again soon.
When I interviewed best-selling author Lesley Pearse recently, Lesley said that for her The Thorn Birds brought back many happy memories of feeding her baby daughter while reading the epic novel and doomed love of Meggie and Father Ralph. I could immediately place where I was at the time of reading it too (The Thorn Birds also happens to be one of my all time favourites), newly married, living in Canada and desperately homesick for the UK.
It’s amazing how some books have the ability to transport you back to a specific moment in time. I haven’t yet migrated over to the Kindle. Somehow part of the pleasure of reading for me is the actual turning of the pages, the smell of ‘summer’ as my holiday reads absorb some of my sunscreen from my fingers. I would love to hear other’s thoughts on the kindle- although I’m not too sure I would be an easy convert!
As a lover of historical fiction I am always on the lookout for the next interpretation of Tudor life- I’m bit of a Henry ‘groupie’! Can‘t resist – even though I know all the endings from the start!
New ‘Favourite Books’ Group on Fabafterfifty
For those who also love a good book and would like to discuss their favourites or simply recommend a ‘good read’ to others I’ve set up a new Favourite Books ‘group’ on Fabafterfifty where you can do just that!! Share your favourites, talk about favourite characters and authors. Let your favourites become others best friends too!
