There are women who look terrific with grey hair, resist the hair colour bottle, and still look good. Usually these are women who are genetically blessed with striking eyes and looks, a chic demeanour, fabulous skin and great figures. They would look great whatever their hair colour- but what about those who are less fortunate , and find grey a definite no-no.
Well, you can move back to having colour. Grey hair can make you look washed out, pale and faded. Grey hair can often be coarse and frizzy, absorbs light and generally looks flat and dull.
When we notice our first grey hairs they are in fact white. Nature can play cruel tricks and strip the hair of melanin ( the substance that gives hair its colour) just as women hit the prime of life. The arrival of grey hair often goes hand in hand with the first wrinkles and a slightly expanding waistline- no wonder most women reach for the hair dye bottle!
Colouring Grey Hair
When hair colour is put back into grey it automatically makes hair look shinier, healthier and younger. I’m a huge fan of coloured hair, whether it’s a full head tint with many colours mixed together by a colourist to get a unique tint, or a few delicately woven flickers of colour around your face. A few strands of coloured hair next to the skin can make a huge difference . There are plenty of options, from low lights to highlights to total coverage.
Think of colour as an overall investment in your beauty routine to keep the years at bay.
Conditioning tips for grey hair
Using a shampoo conditioner that suits grey hair is key. Andrew Barton Ultimate Blonde Collection of products from Asda are perfect for grey hair as they utilise white willow extract and chamomile which are both nourishing and illuminating ingredients making grey look shiny, healthy and reducing unwanted brassy tones.
Also in the collection is a clever brightening shampoo that used once or twice a week tones grey hair with pearl extract.
Grey hair can also lack moisture so using a deep conditioning mask at least once a week will help to soften the hair texture and make it easier to manage. Try Andrew Barton Frizz Tamer Moisturising Mask.
