We caught up with Steve Miller, presenter of Fat Families and weight loss and confidence coach, to ask if he could help us kick start our post Christmas weight loss efforts.
Q: What is your top tip for 2012 to keep the excess weight off for good?
A: I think there are two. First of all I recommend people use mind programming tool.s I always use clinical hypnotherapy with my clients because I find it brings about the most effective weight loss. Rigid diets are doomed in my book so i recommend people use the 80-20 rule eating healthily for 80% of the time and some treats 20% of the time. Of course always be aware of portion sizes!
Q: What is your top tip for managing portion sizes?
A: There are three things to do here. Firstly think before you fill your plate, secondly be conscious of your eating and thirdly make sure each meal takes a least 20 minutes to complete.
Clinical hypnotherapy for weight loss
Q: You are an advocate of clinical hypnotherapy for weight loss. How does this work exactly?
A: Hypnotherapy works by programming the unconscious mind. It installs new ways of controlling food and as a result you begin to eat less and eat better.
Q: Are you an advocate of applying tough love on ourselves to lose weight?
A: Absolutely! I often tell myself to quit moaning and stop making excuses. At the same time though it is important to praise yourself for doing well; after all motivation is carrot and stick.
Q: Do you set any ground rules for people wanting to lose weight?
A: Yes. There are three. 1. Eat 3 meals and day and balance the 80-20 rule 2. Keep your mind busy so you don’t become bored and pick at food and 3. Link your weight loss to an end goal such as getting a new job or a new relationship.
Q: What is the weight loss event about that you are running on 21st January in Birmingham?
A: I will be hosting the event to help like minded people ditch excuses, build a plan for long term weight loss and showing them how to use self hypnosis as part of the journey. Of course it will all be delivered with fun!
Q: Finally what would you say to anyone doubting their ability to lose weight?
A: Well, I know it doesn’t come easy to people but I would say begin by making a plan of what they can do to eat less, eat better and move more. Then consider visiting a hypnotherapist for a few session to help change bad eating habits. Finally always make sure you hang out with people that inspire you. Ditch the drains!
