Five Fab Fitness Tips for the Mother of the Bride

Wedding photos are something that are cherished and passed down from generation to generation. For that reason it’s understandable that you’ll want to look your very best on your daughter’s wedding day. But the great thing about your daughter’s upcoming big day is that provides that extra motivation boost to get in shape. In fact, making a few changes can have you looking and feeling great in a matter of weeks. Here are five great tips for getting into that dress.

Be Consistent

When it comes to looking great in that special dress, consistency counts. Work out how often you can exercise and do it consistently. Likewise, make a plan for eating well and do so consistently; sticking with it the best you can.

As humans, I think it’s in us to want to cram; to leave something until the last minute. But unfortunately it doesn’t work so well when it comes to our bodies. You’re much better off doing three 30 minute sessions in a week than one huge 1hr and 30 minute session. A little at a time goes a long way, especially when it comes to getting into that dress!

Lift Weights

As well as jogging, using the exercise bike, Zumba and any other cardio; incorporate some light weight exercises into your exercise routine. Contrary to popular belief, lifting weights won’t make you look bulky, but will make you appear sleek and toned.

Lifting weights also contributes to your weight loss by improving your ability to burn fat; it increases your metabolism. The reason for this is that muscle actually burns fat, with each pound burning around 50 calories a day!

Getting into that special dress

On average, we lose ½lb of muscle every year after we reach 40, meaning that we lose the natural ability to burn 25 calories a day every year. But, this process can be slowed and even reversed by lifting weights. Grab some weights in your next exercise session and you’ll make more headway getting into that special dress.

Eat Breakfast

It’s so important to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning, especially if you’re trying to get in shape or simply want to avoid gaining weight. The reason for this is that breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, causing it to increase from the lower level it fell to while you slept. But if you skip breakfast it doesn’t increase straight away and limps along at its lower level for a few hours more.

I understand it can be tough to get a meal in first thing in the morning, be it that you’re in a rush or just can’t stomach something first thing. But if you have to have something small or wake up 15 minutes earlier, it’s a habit you’ll be glad you developed

Get Some Rest

Most of the good stuff that happens as a result of exercise doesn’t happen while you’re doing it, it happens while you’re at rest. All the physical changes that happen in your body as a result of exercise happen when you’re asleep, when your body has time to slow down and recuperate. So when you’ve put in the work with each exercise session, let your body do its part by getting enough sleep each night.

Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is not only important to your overall health, but your efforts in getting in shape.

The first reason for this is that mild dehydration can be confused for hunger. When we’re as little as 1% dehydrated, our bodies’ cry for water can be mistaken for hunger so…we eat something! But if this happens consistently, particularly if we don’t eat something healthy; we can find our weight loss efforts thwarted.

The second way in which being dehydrated can affect your efforts to stay in shape is by affecting your concentration. At 1% dehydration our concentration can be affected greatly, making us less effective at what we’re doing. This can lead to tension, and feeling tense can affect our mood. And when we’re not in a good mood, we often look to comfort food to change it. Comfort food, particular food high in sugar provides a small amount of pleasure that makes us feel good. But again, if this happens consistently getting in shape can prove a real challenge.

Keeping a glass or bottle of water handy is a great way to avoid unnecessary eating and look great in that gown!

    try Pilates too for posture then you’ll look fab in the photos (helps relieve stress too)
