Stylish summer shorts

It’s getting towards the time of year where you start thinking about wearing shorts. Not over your thick winter tights, but just with your bare legs sticking out so that you can enjoy the warmer weather. This season, there are lots of shorts to choose from, so whether you’re heading off on holiday, heading  off to the golf course or just hanging out in the garden, you can look stunning.

The first thing to notice about this season’s shorts is that they come in all lengths, styles, colours and patterns. This makes it easy for you to choose something that works for your age, shape and style whilst still hitting some of this season’s trends. Super-short shorts are still very much in, and you need great legs and a lot of attitude to carry this look off. If, like most women over 50, you’re not  sure that’s for you, there are plenty of alternatives available.

Mid-thigh and just-above-the-knee shorts are readily available this season and give you the chance to feel the sun on your legs without getting over-exposed. Available in denim, cotton and blended fabrics, choose a plain colour and match with a top that’s patterned in this season’s bright, bold colours, or go the other way and choose patterned shorts to pair with a plain top. As well as colour, black and white is a key trend this season, so if you prefer monochrome, select a tailored pair of black shorts and match with a chequered black and white top for maximum impact.

Cropped trousers

summer shorts 2 imageIf you’d like shorter womens trousers by cotton traders, but you’re not prepared to go above the knee, there are plenty of fantastic cropped trousers out there that will substitute brilliantly for shorts in the summer. This is a great current style, with cropped skinny trousers being matched with stylish pumps or low heels for an almost Parisian look this spring and summer. Again, available in lots of different colours and patterns – patterned trousers and shorts are another trend this season – you’re bound to find something that’s perfect for you.

It’s worth getting hold of some shorts early in the season rather than waiting until the week before you go on holiday – (and you never know when the sun might unexpectedly grace us with its presence!) Retailers are now showcasing their full spring and summer collections, so you’ll get the best of the range, and there are still some great prices around and some bargains on offer. Its time to put your Cotton Trader’s ladies waterproof jackets in the closet and buy now!
