Where do you start if you find yourself in a make-up rut? The brows are a great place to start to give yourself an instant ‘lift’.
World-class brows have the ability to communicate without words, beautify without makeup and beat the clock without a scalpel.
Tips to look younger with well groomed eyebrows
With 25 years in the beauty industry, Shavata Singh is the definitive go-to guru for grooming the most important feature on our face. These are her tips for having the perfect brows in our 50s:
“Eyebrows aren’t there to be complimented. It’s like when you go into an art gallery, you never say ‘Oh my God what a beautiful frame’. The frame is there silently to make that painting look its best. My job is the same – to help complement the windows of the soul. A lot of our clients always say people ask them if they have done something different after they’ve had their eyebrows done by us because they look so well. It’s almost like a mini face lift or making someone look like they’ve had a perfect night’s sleep!” Shavata, January 2012.
For women over 50, a well styled brow is the equivalent to a mini-face-lift – they can give you an instantly manicured look, structure to your face and accentuate the effect of the eyes. Always go to a professional to get the basic shape.
Defined arches give a lifting effect
For the more mature client, I always recommend very defined arches which create a gentle lifting effect. As brows naturally thin with age, I also recommend a tint – it’s the best anti-ageing tip I’ve been given, as it can really help make the brows appear thicker and fuller. If you have thinning brows, don’t pluck.
If you’d rather not have a tint, a brow pencil or shadow should be an essential addition to your makeup bag; without it the totally groomed look cannot be perfected. Pencils are great for women who want to draw in a shape. Shadow is best for women who want to colour the hair and the skin – for example, should you want to cover up a few grey hairs. Eyebrow gel is also a must have- not only will it brush hair but it also holds brows in place.”
Shavata now has an impressive 20 brow studios weaving their way across the UK, including sites at Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Debenhams stores nationwide. July 2013 saw the launch of Shavata’s flagship Brow Studio on Beauchamp Place in Knightsbridge, from which Shavata will personally be treating her clients.
