Inspirational Poem – My Secret Stress-Relief Tip

stress poem image - CopyArticle by Ntathu Allen

Bless you gentle friends and welcome to today’s Moment of Calm post an inspirational poem – “My Secret Stress-Relief Tip” (which isn’t really a secret because it’s something I do all the time!)

Regular readers will know our Moment of Calm spot is dedicated to offering you simple stress-relief tips and techniques to help you relax, reduce stress and have more fun and happiness in your life.

What’s Your Secret Stress-Relief Tip?

Most people have their favourite way of relaxing, from soaking in a candle-lit bath to taking a brisk walk first thing in the morning.  If you scroll through previous Moment of Calm posts, you’ll find a variety of suggestions to reduce stress and weave more moments of calm into your life.

Mine Is Writing

One of my favourite form of relaxation is sitting somewhere warm by the sea (preferably in the Caribbean) meditating and writing in my journal.  For me, that’s bliss.

For many years I struggled with grief. I felt lost and abandoned when my dear cousin and then my brother unexpectedly died. There was no way of escaping my pain, until I rediscovered my childhood joy of writing and literally wrote my pain away. It was a very traumatic time in my life yet the beauty of it, through writing, I’m recovered, found meaning and calm in my life and as a testimony to that, am here, writing and sharing the space with you.

In today’s post, a poem called “Look Within” I share a little bit of my journey of how I overcame a major stressful time in my life, grief, to find a way to breathe and feel alive again – all through the power of prayer, meditation and of course writing.  Sit back, relax, and allow your thoughts to settle as you give thanks for the gift of life.

Inspirational Poem – “Look Within”

Look Within

c. Ntathu Allen

“How do I become whole?”

I ask my Guide.

“look within” was his reply.

I stopped. Stared. Eyes wide open, mind racing…

“what do you mean, ‘look within’, where’s that”?  I replied.

“inside” was the reply.

“Everything you need to know comes from within”.

Still, I stopped and stared.

I couldn’t understand, couldn’t comprehend the simplicity of his reply.

Questions raced through my mind.

“where?” “what?” “how?” “inside?” “inside what?”

Yet all he would reply  “Look within, inside yourself.

Everything you need to know comes from within.”

Days, weeks, months passed by.

The sun rose, the stars shone and the leaves fell, yet still I would cry…

“How do I become whole…how do I let-go of the pain inside?”

The sun rose, the stars shone and the leaves fell, yet this time I sat still.

I paused. Closed my eyes, breathed and prayed, meditating on the breath, quietly acknowledging the beauty within.

I saw myself, a shimmer of light

A bird of love, a gliding eagle soaring high above, a speck in the universal sky.

I saw the hole and became whole, became a flowing river living with harmony in the oneness of life.

***

And that dear friends, is my story. How I overcame grief, learnt to let go of a major stress in my life and breath.

What’s your story?

What did you do to overcome your stress and fear and find peace in life?
