Curvy women CAN wear fitted dresses Day 8 2014 Dresses with Sleeves Challenge

damsel in a dress £99Article by Ceri Wheeldon

On Day 8 of the 2014 Dresses with Sleeves I am going to be slightly controversial. Curvy women CAN wear fitted dresses. I know whenever I highlight a fitted dress with sleeves I will get comments (particularly on the FabafterfIfty Facebook page) from people saying that as they have curves they couldn’t wear a dress like this. I think you can – in fact I do. As long as your figure is in proportion I don’t think your actual dress size really matters.  What I would say is that wear a dress like this if you do have curves, then the right underwear is key – especially over 50! A good fitting bra and hold you on knickers! I have a very similar dress to this one – (it’s not available any more so I  can’t share my own dress although I have posted a pic below of me wearing it!)

Martell Very Special Nights

This Damsel in A Dress dress with sleeves is a stunning shade of blue. In stretch lace It has a flattering sweetheart  neckline and lace sleeves.

I wear my very similar dress frequently – it’s a firm favourite!

What are your thoughts on wearing a body hugging dress?

I agree, proportion and underwear are essential but our curves are fine. I have a dress disadvantage in being different sizes top & bottom with a short back…but stretch lace sounds hopeful.
Problems with bigger boobs than bottom: it’s often assumed that at size 18 you have a back like a brickie and arms like a gorilla, or thighs that could kick start a Boeing. I usually have to go for separates with 16 at the bottom, even then it can be baggy. Stretch material is the way to go, or shop Pepperberry at Bravissimo.
I would like to find an obliging dressmaker to alter stuff!

Thank you so much, Ceri. You’ve got some great dresses there. I especially like the pic of you in the blue Damsel in a Dress looking amazing.
