Nia is a holistic fitness class that looks like dance but without the stress of having to get it right. There are steps to follow as well as freedom to be expressive, and dance your own way.
It’s based on 52 moves that draw from dance, martial arts and healing practices such as yoga. What does that mean? It means your body will love doing it, it wants to do it, it knows how to do it. Nia is the opposite of the old saying, “no pain, no gain”. Pleasure is fundamental to Nia. There’s no reason to hurt your body while you’re trying to ultimately help your body. That simply doesn’t make sense. And all the moves are done to music that you simple won’t be able to resist.
It’s barefoot, the music is inspiring, ranging from Jazz and Latin to Pop and World. Sensing pleasure and awareness at the same time as building fitness is key to Nia. Including some kicks and punches from the martial arts, Jazz and Modern dance as well as slow moves and stillness from T’ai Chi and Yoga, this is movement for Wellbeing, a great way to get in shape, not just physically but in Mind and Spirit too. A one hour experience, leaving you enlivened, expressed and happy!
