Organic Hairdresser, and all round Hair Guru, Tabitha James-Kraan gives Fab After Fifty her thoughts on staying Natural
There has been so much media coverage recently about Grey Hair and it’s pros and cons, but here at Tabitha James Kraan we believe you should be able to have whatever colour hair you’d like. If you’re gradually maturing your look, why not embrace the grey, but if you’d like to add a bit of glorious technicolour to your barnet, then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that either! There are some great ways you can enhance your natural tones but the most fundamental of them all is simple: treat your hair as naturally as you can.
Since the 1950s the percentage of women colouring their hair has risen from 7% to 75%. That is an extraordinary increase in such a short time, therefore the hair industry has had to react quickly.
Over the years I have developed a unique and revolutionary form of organic colour application known as “Clever Colouring”. This is conscientious colouring in its truest form, with specialised methods that deliver the best results using the cleanest colouring products available. Our mindful, educated methods achieve beautiful results thinking about the body holistically.
My team and I have a wealth of knowledge gained from years of experience pioneering organic colouring to the masses. We have a deep understanding of hair types and colours, painting and blending tones that work with your complexion. As we move through the seasons you may need a different version of your blonde, brunette or red shade. We design colour patterns that work with your natural skin tone complimenting your evolving complexion.
“Hair thrives when its nurtured by nature”. This isn’t more apparent than with mature hair. The reason your hair turns grey is that it loses the natural pigmentation as the cell make-up of the hair strand changes. The more pigmentation it loses the more moisture it needs. Conventional products are made up of a series of harmful chemical formulas designed to dehydrate the hair strand and scalp through stripping the naturally recurring oil. By removing the natural sebum so frequently, your sebaceous glands will go into drastic overdrive, producing more and more oil, as the body tries to regain the right balance. This is known to many as the vicious “grease” cycle! These chemical hair products are distinctly harmful for any hair type, whereas natural products will cleanse the oil retaining the moisture in the hair strand and sealing it within, making the hair more buoyant, manageable and ultimately, beautiful.
I have been wearing my hair grey for a number of years embracing my natural tones. It makes me feel younger, sexier and more alive! By using natural products, more specifically my TJK haircare range, my hair has actually become an ash blonde shade which I couldn’t be more in love with!
Natural products make the body function as it should. They will restore and maintain the natural equilibrium of your hair and scalp whereas chemical based cosmetic products create dependency.
With natural and organic colouring systems, in conjunction with natural haircare, you will see and feel a significantly improved hair condition as well as longevity of colour. People may still feel that natural and organic colours aren’t their cup of tea but rest assured, the quality of your hair will show the difference!
With natural products and methods, your hair will be given a new lease of life. It will be bouncier, shinier, more buoyant and much more manageable. Allowing your scalp to rejuvenate after years of chemical washing will mean bad hair days are a thing of the past.
