You’re relocating abroad – lucky you! But there is one thing standing in your way before you jet off and leave behind the wet and windy UK for warmer climates: your house.
Selling your home can be an incredibly stressful experience when you are just changing postcodes – so when changing countries this stress can increase tenfold.
Ideally you want everything to go as quickly and smoothly as possible, because you don’t want to be stuck in England waiting for it to sell or on the other side of the world as ongoing issues continue back here.
So, with that in mind, here are a few hints and tips to help speed up the moving process.
Start packing as early as possible
The sooner you start the process, the quicker and easier it will be. Give yourself plenty of time to go through all your belongings and organise items to be thrown away, donated to charity and sold – there is no point transporting items overseas that you don’t need.
You might also want to start putting your belongings that are going abroad with you into storage. There are units conveniently located right next to Heathrow, so you can collect them on moving day.
Once you have worked out what you are taking with you – you will know what you can leave behind. Perhaps, you aren’t that bothered about your larger items of furniture such as the sofas and beds – and moving them will just be a hassle. Then why not offer them with the house.
This could definitely be an incentive, especially if you are showing round a first time buyer who doesn’t have any furniture yet. As well as this you could make a few changes around the home to help it sell quicker – give it a lick of paint, tidy up the garden, clean the carpets and so on.
Avoid estate agents
It can take up to 65 days on average to sell your home and depending where you are in the UK, this could go up to 113 days. By avoiding estate agents you won’t only save yourself time, you could also save yourself a significant amount of money.
But, how do you sell your home without an estate agent? Well, you could use a company such as we buy any house. As the name would suggest they will buy any home and they could buy yours, for cash, within 7 days.
So rather than having to wait months to start your new life in paradise, you only have to wait a week. Why don’t you fill in the valuation form online and see how much they could offer you for your property? You are under no obligation to continue if you are not happy with it.
Don’t ask for too much
One thing that could really slow down the moving process is asking too much for your home. Obviously you don’t want to ask to little either but, if you ask for too much potential buyers are likely to think you aren’t serious or will be priced out completely.
Rent it out
You don’t have to sell your home – you could rent it out. You can always sell this at a later date – when you are settled in your new home. But by renting it out you will have some money coming in each month and you don’t have to pack everything up, as you could rent it out fully-furnished if you wish. Also, if the move doesn’t work out you have somewhere to come back to.
Follow these hints and tips and you will be sat on the beach, cocktail in hand before you know it!
