The role and image of Air Hostesses has evolved over the decades. Multi-faceted they form a key part of the image of each airline…their uniforms reflect each airline’s branding, while their training prepares them to manage all on board eventualities. From the glamour of the 40s and 50s when airline travel was reserved for the privileged and the 60s, when flight attendants were seen as fashion icons , today air travel has become far more routine, flight attendants have soothed nervous passengers, served countless meals and drinks, and dealt with emergencies. They are brand ambassadors just as much as they are employees.
The entry level requirements have changed considerably since the 1930s, when flight attendants were required to be trained nurses.
Opodo have put together an infographic with some interesting facts – hard to believe that the first flight attendant was appointed more than 100 years ago!
