We recently invited readers of Fab after Fifty via social media to take part in a survey, where we asked how they felt about various aspects of midlife. Thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved. It is very much appreciated.
Here is a quick summary of the results. There were a few surprises !
The Midlife Survey Results
57% said they were happy with their life today, but 43% indicated that they weren’t.
50% were happy in their jobs, 38% were unhappy and 12% had already retired.
25% had no idea if/when they would be able to retire.
Unhappy with their health
56% are unhappy with their level of fitness and their nutrition
33% are unhappy in their relationships
When it came to what caused most stress in midlife:
15% said finance
15% said health
3% said mental health
3% said relationships
7% said Family
15% said physical fitness
8% said career
13% said missed opportunities
12% said elderly parents
The ‘other’ category was primarily those worried about managing stress following the death of a partner or the concern about becoming widowed in the future.
Best decade in life
30% thought their best decade was behind them,
27% believed they were living their best decade now
23% didn’t know but only 18% thought their best decade was ahead of them.
Garth Delikan , my co-founder of the MildLife MOT also joined me on a video call to discuss the results – I shall be sharing the footage very soon – it was a long conversation so I will split them as we were chatting for half an hour- so those who just want to listen to the snippets relevant to them can!
I will add to this post later ?
