  1. From acting to writing. Actress Melanie Chartoff shares her midlife reinvention story

    Comment
Interview by Ceri Wheeldon I love to share inspirational reinvention stories. Actress Melanie Chartoff talks about her journey from actress to writer and why she truly believes its ‘never too late’, marrying for the first time at 65! Tell us a little about yourself I hail from New Haven, CT, lived in New York City where I began performing on and off Broadway and in nightclubs. I started working bicoastally in Los Angeles in television in my late 20s. I bought my first home here in Los Angeles in 1991, a house built in 1921, with lots of character. It felt from the first moment I stepped inside it like my first real home. Still does, even more so since my brand new husband...
  2. Easy Weight Loss Tips for Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals over 50 in Lockdown

    Comment
If you’ve tried to lose weight and failed, you’re probably thinking that it’s a mighty difficult task to accomplish. Do you feel like you’ve tried every diet out there and nothing works? While in lockdown the motivation to stick to a healthy diet to lose weight can be even harder. Don’t give up! Achieving your weight loss goals might be easier than you think! Small Changes = Big Results As you’ve no doubt noticed, weight loss isn’t a quick fix. You can’t go on a two-week diet, lose the weight, and then think that the weight will stay off for good. Even if you’re really good about following a diet at first, you’ll more than likely gain the weight back. Why? It’s because...
  3. New Year Challenge to stay Fabulous Day 2: Walk with a change of direction!

    Comment
Time to mix things up! Do you always walk in the same direction?  Walking offers so many benefits to both general health and mindset. As many of us find ourselves working from home for increasing periods, it is good to break up the day with a dose of fresh air and a break from looking at screens. I do try to go for a walk around my village daily, but I realise that I always take the same route – coming out of my front door and turning right. I only ever see the scenery from the same perspective. So, today’s challenge is really easy. If you have a usual route , reverse it!! In my case I shall turn left and complete my circle...
  4. Start 2021 on a positive note: Introducing our New Year Challenge to stay Fabulous over 50

    Comment
New Year New You Challenge! Typically the start of a New Year is when we set our goals and make plans for the year ahead, but as we say goodbye to 2020 (thank goodness) we start 2021 in less than ideal circumstances. So how do we start the year on a positive note? Nobody could have envisaged 12 months ago that we would be starting 2021 in less than ideal circumstances. Many of us are in partial or total lockdown (at the time of writing this I am in Tier 4 with all its associated restrictions) waiting to be inoculated with a vaccine which we are told will be our gateway to resuming a normal life. I know that I have found the past nine months challenging, I live alone and work from home and ordinarily I am very happy to do so, but I have always had...
  5. Review of KeraHealth 360 Hair Health Plan for thinning hair

    Comment
Review by Ceri Wheeldon Thinning hair is a common problem for women in midlife and beyond. Our hair may well have been our ‘crowning glory’ when we were younger – but as we get older both volume and condition of hair can worsen. I was asked if I would like to try the KeraHealth Hair Health plan, comprising a shampoo, conditioner, supplement and scalp massager, developed specifically to help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth (you can read my interview with the KeraHealth founder who developed KeraHealth having experienced hair loss herself). KeraHealth Follicle Healing Shampoo and Conditioner I have used products developed to counter hair loss previously. Where KeraHealth differs is in its consistency. It is not at all cloying. It is light ,...
  6. Interview with KeraHealth hair growth system founder Fay Afghahi

    Comment
Interview by Ceri Wheeldon Thinning hair is a problem faced by many women in midlife and beyond. Fay Afghahi experienced the problem first hand, and founded product range to combat hair loss and promote hair growth. Fay shares the story behind her products with Fab after Fifty.   What is the story behind the KeraHealth brand? The brand really came about quite organically. My experience as Editor In Chief of Elle Arabia had given me a great insight as to what women were looking for in terms of beauty products and also meant that I had the opportunity to try nearly all of the beauty innovations as they launched. I realised that the best results I always seemed to get was when I was supplementing or...
  7. 13 Life Lessons From Classic Christmas Films and TV Specials

    Comment
Christmas films movies and TV specials can teach us how to live better and enjoy more happiness year round. These are some of the most important life lessons from a few old favorites and some other works that may be less well known. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”: Sing joyfully. Before he had his change of heart, singing was what the Grinch liked least of all. Surround yourself with the music of the season and sing along. Resist commercial pressures. The Grinch learned that Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Focus on the true meaning of the holidays by sharing time with loved ones and looking for ways to make others happy. Let your heart grow bigger. Seuss suspected that the Grinch suffered from a heart two sizes too small....

With so many additional stresses added to our lives as a result of the pandemic, taking time out for self care has never been more important. Meditation and mindfulness are popular ways to combat stress. There are many benefits to be gained through meditation, but beginners often struggle to develop a meditation practice. There is a lot of confusion around the simple, but challenging, practice of meditation. A few tips can make a significant difference. 10 tips to meditate more effectively and enjoy greater benefits: You don’t need anything to meditate. It can be nice to have a proper cushion, loose fitting clothing, and a quiet location. However, you don’t need any of those things. You can meditate on the bus in your three-piece suit. You always have everything you...
  9. Job search over 50: Are you applying for a job with an age friendly employer?

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon How a job advertisement is written can tell us a lot about how age inclusive a prospective employer might be. These are difficult times and if you find yourself facing redundancy there may be the temptation to put together a CV and apply for as many jobs as possible. That is NOT what I would suggest you do. There are steps to take before putting together your CV ( such as truly understanding your marketable skills) and ways to put together a compelling CV for each and every job you apply for.  Before you do that I want you to be  more discerning in terms of which vacancies you select to send your CV to. Hoe age inclusive is the potential employer....
  10. Do we all need to bring out our inner Moira Rose during the pandemic?

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon At the time of writing , here in the UK we are half way through our second lockdown. So many people I talk to are saying that the are finding it so much harder than the first, the shorter days and miserable weather are not helping- at least for the first lockdown we were able to enjoy sunny days – and our gardens. Many are finding it difficult to remain optimistic and motivated. So what can we do to help give ourselves a boost in these difficult times? I have just finished watching all six seasons of Schitt’s Creek on Netflix. For those who haven’t seen it, it is a Canadian comedy following the lives of the fictional Rose family who fall on...
