  1. Dresses with Sleeves – with added vintage drama – day 3 of new challenge

Article by Ceri Wheeldon What could be better? Dresses with sleeves are far from boring! I love both monochrome and vintage inspired prints, so when the two are combined to create a stunning , sophisticated dress like this one by Damsel in a Dress, it goes straight to the top of my wishlist. The abstract top combines with a solid block skirt, with the clever placement of the abstract print creating the illusion of a smaller waist. This dress is lined in a stretch jersey to provide a sleeker silhouette. Great for wearing now, but would also work well for spring – ideal to wear as a guest at a wedding! The Ditta Dress by Damsel in a Dress is available at ...
  2. Dresses with Sleeves – make the sleeves interesting.

Article by Ceri Wheeldon. It might be tempting to think of wearing dresses with sleeves once we reach our 50s as an easy way of simply covering our arms – and bingo wings!  Don’t think of wearing sleeves as a compromise. Sleeves can also add a glamorous feature to a dress.  Sheer sleeves in lace, net, or ‘spot lace’ as in the dress I’ve selected here, can provide cover for the arms, while making the sleeves ‘less heavy’. Great for evenings where you want to add a touch of glamour, and where less is definitely more! This particular dress by Michaela Louisa has a mock wrap front with flattering draping, I think of it as a classic with a twist! Michaela Louisa Spot Sleeve Dress £149 is available from ...
  3. Dresses with Sleeves – the campaign returns!

Article by Ceri Wheeldon. Following the success of the Dresses with Sleeves campaign over the spring and summer ( I highlighted 50 dresses with sleeves over 50 days), I have been inundated with requests to find some more. I can’t guarantee to find new dress with sleeves every single day but I will do my best! Also, I had a lot of requests last time to have a full list of all the dresses featured, so I will compile a list and add to it daily – just so that you can review all the dresses together. The good news is that there does appear to a broader selection to choose from at the moment- so perhaps retailers are at last listening to what women over 50  say they want to...
  4. Choosing a style role model over 50 to make clothes shopping easier

Article by Ceri Wheeldon So often when getting together with friends they bemoan the lack of suitable clothes for women over 50 on the high street. One of the things I often suggest is choosing a celebrity style role model from TV and keeping an image of them in mind when shopping for clothes. Choose someone who you think looks good and who who has a similar body shape to yourself – if you choose someone like Lorraine Kelly or Ruth Langsford they will often tweet about what they have been wearing on their programmes that day and do respond to questions about where they bought specific items  – and many of the outfits they wear are from high street brands such as Zara and Hobbs and Ruth in particular seems to wear a...
  5. Ceme London offers FabAfterFifty readers discount off dresses with sleeves.

    Article by Ceri Wheeldon

The recent dresses with sleeves campaign was incredibly popular. And it seems it didn’t go unnoticed by some of the retailers of the dresses I featured.

One of my favourite dresses was by Ceme London- and it seems quite a number of Fabafterfifty readers agreed, as Ceme noticed many of you clicking through to buy from them.

As a result they have contacted me to offer FabAfterFifty readers a discount of 20% off their new collection ( with and without sleeves!). You just need to use the code FAF20 at the checkout.

I have been flipping through the Ceme website and I my own wishlist is quite long- although ironically my favourite is without sleeves this time!

  6. Dresses with Sleeves Challenge Day 50 – Simplicity to be stylish over 50

Article by Ceri Wheeldon Phew! The last dress of the challenge! There are dresses with sleeves available to buy, we just have to know where to look. No excuse now for not being stylish over 50! For Day 50 of the Dresses with Sleeves Challenge I have gone full circle and chosen another dress from Isabella Oliver. This one is a plain, elegant ruched jersey dress with long sleeves. I particularly like the Khaki version of this dress, but I only have the picture in blue. Plain , simple, with strategically placed ruching to minimise the tummy. The ruching allows you to adjust to the length you want. The simplicity of this dress makes it ideal for accessorising. Ruched Jersey...

We all want to look stylish and sophisticated over 50. We can still be colourful and add a bold colour to our summer wardrobe.

Totally understated elegance, a shift dress with sleeves can be very stylish option over 50.

For day 47 of the Dresses with Sleeves Challenge I have chosen a pale grey lace and embroidery dress by Karen Millen from House of Fraser. With ¾ length sleeves and a scalloped edge on hem and cuffs, this is an ideal dress for daytime special occasions.

  10. Dresses with Sleeves Day 46 – mixing floral and plain

elegant over 50 imageArticle by Ceri Wheeldon

Weddings and summer events such as race meetings offer great opportunities to wear something a little special and look stylish over 50 – with or without a hat!

For Day 46 of the Dresses with Sleeves Challenge I have to confess to cheating (sorry!) as I have chosen a pink dress with a bolero jacket by Sublette. This knee length dress mixes floral with plain to great effect. The jacket would also look great over a plain grey or black shift dress.
