  1. Finding the Right Dress Silhouettes for Your Body Type

    Comment
Every woman is made differently, but by no means does that mean one is more beautiful than the other. It’s all about finding the best fit for you. As important as it is to understand your body shape, a surprising number of women still have a hard time finding what clothes suit them best, and it doesn’t help that perception of body image can change as you grow older. Learning to love your body is a lifelong journey for all of us, and one way to achieve body confidence is by learning what clothes look the most flattering on us. To help women while shopping, numerous labels have posted their own style advice for different shapes. Along with a sizing chart, Adrianna Papell is a brand that Lyst...
  2. Finding Inspiration for Evening Wear from the Glamour of James Bond Films

    Comment
Dressing up and going out to a black tie do can be a daunting task, especially if you are fashion conscious and want to stand out. You can draw inspiration for evening wear from the great clothes that are usually displayed in James Bond movie scenes filmed at some of the top casinos in the world. The name James Bond evokes images of a slick secret service agent with equally gorgeous Bond girls in svelte evening dresses. James Bond or 007 is the most widely accepted male role model when it comes to imbibing class. The opulent casino scenes in Bond movies encourage the dynamic operator to flaunt his dashing debonair self. Bond’s style is ageless. From Sean Connery’s tuxedo in DR. NO (1962) to Daniel Craig’s single breast dinner...
  3. Dresses with Sleeves for Autumn /Winter Dress 5: Inspired by Grace Kelly

    Comment
Style pick by Ceri Wheeldon One of the most popular dresses I have shared in the various Dresses with Sleeves challenges over the past couple of years was very much in the style of Grace Kelly. That particular dress is no longer available – I have received a lot of  requests asking where you can buy something similar, so I am sharing one that I have found from a vintage range stocked by The Little Black Dress company. I have said before that if you like the retro styles ,  brands that specialise in vintage styles can be a great source of dresses not easily found on the High Street. Most are really competitively priced too , as this one I’ve selected demonstrates  – priced at just £35. A...
  4. Dresses with Sleeves for Autumn /Winter Dress 4 – Sixties retro Jackie O

    Comment
Style pick by Ceri Wheeldon I know this isn’t really a dress with sleeves per se, as it is a shift dress with a jacket, but I liked it so much I had to share. I think it is very ‘Jackie O’  or ‘Mad Men’ inspired and great for any autumn weddings. Would look great with a 60s style ‘up do’.  The jacquard print is very on trend this season, but the styling makes it a timeless classic.   Vintage inspired brands can be a great source of dresses with sleeves , especially if you like to create a  retro look (tomorrow I will share a very 50’s inspired dress),...
  5. Dresses with Sleeves for Autumn /Winter Dress 3

    Comment
Style Pic by Ceri Wheeldon Cobalt blue is one of my favourite colours, and other than black is the most often bought colour in my own wardrobe. I firmly believe that we can continue to have fun with our clothes beyond the age of 50. I love the cut of this skater dress, but I particularly like the way the sleeves are slashed. and pulled together with bows. A clever way of showing arms while still covering those parts that are less than firm. I wish more designers would be creative in this way -sleeves don’t need to be boring! Cobalt  skater dress costs £185 and...
  6. Dresses with Sleeves for Autumn/Winter Dress 2

    Comment
Style pic by Ceri Wheeldon A fabulous way to wear denim, and a great transition piece for autumn.  For Day 2 of the Dresses with sleeves autumn 16  challenge I have selected this denim dress with sleeves.  I love the top to bottom zip for a modern twist and the tie belt. Great for a layering when when the weather gets cooler – especially as the roll neck sweater is bang on trend this season. I’m a great believer in wearing denim at any age – but a dress can add that edge to being stylish in denim over 50. At the time of writing...
  7. Dresses with sleeves for Autumn/Winter: Dress 1

    Comment
Style pick by Ceri Wheeldon I know I previously undertook  a Dresses with Sleeves Challenge – where I tried to find a Dress with Sleeves a day for 50 days. It was incredibly popular and I have received lots of requests to do this again. I know I made a half hearted attempt a while ago to do it again, but I had so much going on in my life that I couldn’t quite get excited about clothes….but as I am now moving onwards and upwards again I thought it would be a good time to once again make a bid for the Dresses with Sleeves Challenge. I hope you like my choices! Also I will be adding some non ‘dress’ style picks and some video styling tips and...
  8. Holiday dressing over 50: What to pack for a summer holiday

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon I have had lots of requests for some style pics for holiday dressing over 50… so I have put together a selection …all similar to items  I pack in my own case for summer holidays.   For me white or off white jeans and trousers are a wardrobe staple on summer holidays – I usualy take both skinny and flared. White trousers £45 from House of Fraser white jeans £41.30 Biba from House of Fraser I find kimonos are great...
  9. Flats don’t have to be frumpy: pointy toed flats

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon   With all the recent press coverage of some companies putting the need for female employees to wear heels in their dress code, and Julia Roberts taking a stand and going barefoot on the red carpet in Cannes rather than wear the mandatory 3 inch minimum heel,  I picked some of my favourite flats to show that shoes don’t have to be frumpy, and can be elegant! I have never been a lover of flat shoes  (perhaps its the memory of regulation school shoes!)…I have hobbled in heels in the most unlikely places. I love feminine shoes but mostly find flat shoes tend to have rounded toes. I love the comfort of ballerinas, but not how they look on my feet. Heels help to make your legs...
  10. Double denim is in and you should be wearing it

    1
Article by Naomi Watts Remember the first time your Mum recoiled in horror when you paired a denim mini skirt with a denim jacket? Or perhaps she was simply horrified by the length of your skirt.   Much like our body’s inbuilt ability to detect poison and quickly eject it from our system, our brains work in the same way when it comes to putting denim and denim together. Instinctively we think ‘no’, but 2016 is the year to embrace this trend that really shouldn’t work – yet does. So it’s time to stop being a denim snob and pull on your jeans and jacket in matching blue tones. Denim is...
