Georgina
I worked in the ladies fashion industry for around 12 years and am still fascinated.
I think what works is having a wardrobe of basics that is your core and then editing each season and adiding up to the minute seasonal pieces . Deepening on budget this could be anything as simple as a pair of earrings , a scarf .t shirt or it could be numerous items but making sure they are of the moment.
Generally I wear jeans trendy flattish shoes or boots, stretchy tops and knitwear good belts , clothes I feel smart but comfortable in.
Basics would be jeans in blue / black and white for summer t shirt tops a opulent of crisp white shirts , belts a jacket and some sweaters . It is amazing how a wardrobe with fewer items essentially is easier to ind things to wear and it forces you to experiment.
Finally do be bullied by shop assistants go for what YOU like, there are loads of books and on line information on what to wear for body shapes s , but essentially please yourself.
A final point generally speaking very short skirts do not work .
Foundation garment that are a god fit are essential
If in doubt take a trusted friend/ sister or daughters.
Please feel free to ask me at any time if you are not sure
Ps if you want a classy update swap the flat-ties for heals and the sweaters for a jacket, navy is a good choice if you are not sure ,but make sure that it fits you well.
You can turn the jeans and heals into an evening look with a silk or crisp cotton shirt a beautiful piece of cashmere ,you will find many weights in the high street and accessorise with jewellery ,remember less is sometimes more
A final note make sure hair is always clean and well cut and (coloured if you do). Choose a style that is up to the minute . Experiment . make sure shoes are clean and maintained clothes well laundered and pressed.
It is amazing that it is the little things that make a difference !
FINALLY have fun
I am just updating my wardrobe, and find your comments useful, I have a black dress that I wanted to accessorise. I was thinking that daisies are in at the moment, any ideas.. Jayne x
