Q. Has writing the book refined your perception of what middle-age is?
A. I’m not sure that it has. After all, what I was doing was describing an experience that was happening to me, more or less as it happened. As I say in the book, I was more interested in describing the experience than defining it, and I’m not sure that it is possible to formulate a handy catch-all...
