  3. Style over 50: Bra Friendly Summer Dresses

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Whether it’s a summer holiday or a staycation, the warm, sunny weather is welcome, but it can be difficult to find summer dresses that are easy and comfortable to wear in our 50s and beyond – especially if we want to wear a normal bra. When we were younger we may well have been able to go braless enabling us to wear strappy sun dresses. Strapless bras are of course an option, but for those who are bigger busted one that fits and gives the right level of support may not be easy to find. Personally I have found that some strapless bras have such a tight fitting band to keep them in place that they are not...
  4. Summer Dresses: Sale Picks for Holidays and Staycations

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon   Strange times indeed and with all of our lives turned upside down, all regular planning of holidays has gone out of the window. I personally am so grateful for the fabulous weather we have had for much of Lockdown, it has made it so much more bearable. I have been wearing my normal holiday wardrobe for my weekends in the garden. So, whether you are planning a staycation or a summer holiday abroad,  I have looked at some of the best holiday dresses in the sales.  I have tried to select only those with a range of sizes available. There were others that I loved but had limited availability size wise! The right dress can help to downplay parts of our bodies...
  5. Tips for choosing the right maxi dress over 50

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon   With the glorious weather we had during May, I found myself wearing my maxi dresses far earlier than normal. At one time I used to confine them to holidays only, but in recent years I have been wearing them as a good everyday option, wearing with cropped jackets and trainers during the day , and strappy sandals or wedges for going out in the evenings. I have searched for some new ones to order this season- here are some of my favourites. Tips for choosing the right maxi dress over 50: Select a dress that doesn’t have too much fabric and overwhelm you – there are a lot of semi-fitted and shirt style maxis available this season – which are great...
  6. Style over 50: Spring 2020 trends: How to Wear Polka Dots over 50

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Do Polka Dots ever really go out of fashion? Whenever polka dots are mentioned as a new trend I immediate conjure up the image of Julia Roberts in her polka dot dress in Pretty Woman , in the scene where she goes to watch polo. An iconic dress. Just goes to show that true style is timeless! Polka dots always look fresh. They are easy to wear and accessorise and work for all ages. I have selected a few of my favourite polka dot items that I think work well and look stylish for...
  7. Style over 50 : Autumn trends – dark florals

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Continuing with how to adapt this season’s trends to continue to look stylish over 50. I’m taking a look at florals.  Once again I’m trying to be creative with the clothes I already own. Shopping in my own wardrobe was a little more difficult with this one! Initially I thought I was unlikely to find anything floral at all –  when it comes to patterns I tend to be more of an ‘animal print’ person. I did manage to find a dress which is about 30 years old – black with a chiffon skirt – which has not seen the light of day for decades. I teamed it with an old Ghost jacket to make it more appropriate for...
  8. Style over 50: How to wear Autumn 2019 trends: Puffed Sleeves

    Comment
Style picks by Ceri Wheeldon Hard to think about autumn fashion trends when in the middle of a UK heatwave ! However on the Autumn/winter 2019 catwalk, key trends emerged. Dark florals were everywhere, puff sleeves, neon accents,  shoes and boots were either pointy toed or square toed, leather is back with a vengeance, oversized coats and bags, ruffles,  checks and cinched in waists. Over the next few style posts I will be picking out one of the trends – firstly shopping in my own wardrobe to try to achieve the look – and suggesting where to find key pieces at affordable prices for those who don’t have an abundance of puff sleeves or dark floral frocks lurking in the back of...
  9. Summer Sale Picks to look Stylish on Holiday over 50

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon If you are looking for some things to buy last minute before this year’s holiday, or buying ahead for next year – something I often do at sale time – then there are some great summer buys at the moment. Due to the UK’s unpredictable summers (apart from last year’s exceptional weather) , my own summer wardrobe seems to consist of the same things brought out year after year, so sale time is a good way to add a few bits without spending a fortune. I am also conscious of my ‘cost per wear’, and my summer clothes are typically the ones that get worn the least – so I limit my spend per item. I have selected just a...
  10. Ageless Style: A review of The Bias Cut.com

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon With so many individual boutiques failing to survive on the High Street – where can you go to find clothes that are ‘ageless’, stylish and good quality? Shopping online is becoming increasingly popular, and there are more specialist sites catering to our demographic. One is the Bias Cut.com founded by anti- ageism activist (ageism is never in style) , and a regular contributor to Fab after Fifty, Jacynth Bassett. I popped along to take a look at Jacynth’s latest collection – and of course had to try on a few pieces while I was there. Jacynth was inspired to set up the Bias Cut in her twenties  when she became increasingly aware of the frustration of mature women to...
