  1. Dresses with sleeves 2014 challenge Day 11 – an optical illusion.

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Black and white can look fresh for spring and summer – especially if the sleeves are elbow length as opposed to long. For Day 11 of the challenge I have chosen this black and white dress Biba dress with a pattern placed on the top half , and slimming black panels down each side which draw the eye in, creating the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. As the upper half of the dress is quite busy, you would need to keep jewellery at the neckline very simple – if you felt you needed any at all – while the shorter sleeve length is ideal for showing off slim wrists by wearing a chunky plain bangle. A pair of heels and a simple clutch is all you need to be ready...
  2. Dresses with Sleeves 2014 challenge – Day 10 – Day to Evening

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Style over 50 is all about creating a look that works for you. I also like to build my wardrobe with clothes that are as versatile as possible and will work for more than one occasion. No point having wardrobe of beautiful dresses, rarely worn that simply gather dust at the back of the wardrobe. I like dresses that you can dress up or down. Dress for the office – look chic over 50 in this simple black wool dress from Boden. I love the fact that it is a very simple cut – easy to play down for daytime at the office with understated jewellery and flats or kitten heels, but then the simplicity of the dress really lends itself to adding a statement necklace,...
  3. Day 9 2014 Dresses with Sleeves Challenge – something for the weekend

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon A more casual dress with sleeves for day 9 of the challenge. Casual does not just mean jeans! This nautical look dress is a fabulous alternative to jeans. A striped dress can be casual grownup dressing at its best. The dress has a flattering boat neck, buttons on the shoulders, three quarter length sleeves,  and a belt to create a more feminine silhouette. I particularly like the back on this one. The wider stripe on the top enables the narrower stripes on the lower half create the illusion of a smaller bottom. Very welcome in my case! Best with ballet flats or even traditional deck...
  4. What are the best jeans for your body shape over 50?

    2
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Contrary to Joan Collins, I’m a firm believer in being able to wear jeans at any age- especially over 50.  Since I started working from home, I practically live in jeans – but not necessarily denim. Here I have picked out styles and suggestions for each body shape. In my own case I see I seem to have a worrying number of animal print jeans in my wardrobe – not too sure if there is a message for me there! As in any aspect of clothing, choosing the right style of jeans is all about creating balance and proportion. Although for me it also depends on the time of year – I know that somewhere between pear/hourglass re my body shape, which means that to...
  5. Dresses with Sleeves – with added vintage drama – day 3 of new challenge

    2
Article by Ceri Wheeldon What could be better? Dresses with sleeves are far from boring! I love both monochrome and vintage inspired prints, so when the two are combined to create a stunning , sophisticated dress like this one by Damsel in a Dress, it goes straight to the top of my wishlist. The abstract top combines with a solid block skirt, with the clever placement of the abstract print creating the illusion of a smaller waist. This dress is lined in a stretch jersey to provide a sleeker silhouette. Great for wearing now, but would also work well for spring – ideal to wear as a guest at a wedding! The Ditta Dress by Damsel in a Dress is available at ...
  6. Dresses with Sleeves – make the sleeves interesting.

    1
Article by Ceri Wheeldon. It might be tempting to think of wearing dresses with sleeves once we reach our 50s as an easy way of simply covering our arms – and bingo wings!  Don’t think of wearing sleeves as a compromise. Sleeves can also add a glamorous feature to a dress.  Sheer sleeves in lace, net, or ‘spot lace’ as in the dress I’ve selected here, can provide cover for the arms, while making the sleeves ‘less heavy’. Great for evenings where you want to add a touch of glamour, and where less is definitely more! This particular dress by Michaela Louisa has a mock wrap front with flattering draping, I think of it as a classic with a twist! Michaela Louisa Spot Sleeve Dress £149 is available from ...
  7. Dresses with Sleeves – the campaign returns!

    3
Article by Ceri Wheeldon. Following the success of the Dresses with Sleeves campaign over the spring and summer ( I highlighted 50 dresses with sleeves over 50 days), I have been inundated with requests to find some more. I can’t guarantee to find new dress with sleeves every single day but I will do my best! Also, I had a lot of requests last time to have a full list of all the dresses featured, so I will compile a list and add to it daily – just so that you can review all the dresses together. The good news is that there does appear to a broader selection to choose from at the moment- so perhaps retailers are at last listening to what women over 50  say they want to...
  8. Trinny and Susannah launch new clothing range for real women – review

    1
Article by Ceri Wheeldon When Trinny and Susannah first hit our TV screens in What Not to Wear I used to watch without fail as women were transformed – from the outside in. As participants carried their 4 bin bags of clothes up the stairs to find out what items in their wardrobe flattered and what was better suited in the bin, I used to do mental check of similar clothes  hanging in my own wardrobe- although friends would say jokingly that if ever I would appear it might take 4 furniture vans to transport the contents of my wardrobe – I’m a bit of a hoarder! So, when I heard that Trinny and Susannah were launching their own clothing line aimed at women with three main body types...

Article by Fabafterfifty We’re approaching the Christmas party season which is great for socialising with colleagues and friends but causes a slight dilemma when you haven’t got time to go home and change your outfit.  Luckily we’ve come up with a solution and it only involves one dress!  Every woman has a classic black dress like this gorgeous one from Isabella Oliver: And we’ve searched the Jane Shilton website to find the perfect shoes and handbags that help to transform this dress into the right outfit for three different occasions. 10. Actress Jane Seymour Looks Stylish at 60

    Comment
Article by Fabafterfifty It’s hard to believe that actress Jane Seymour turned 60 this year, but she looks as fabulous as ever. What can we learn from Jane’s own personal style to make sure we dress elegantly and stylishly over 50 ? Animal print can be worn stylishly over 50 My favourite of the outfits Jane models for  CC Fashion is the  Animal Print Dress  £99 (see featured image) and on my autumn fashion wishlist.  An elegant way to wear animal print without looking like Bet Lynch. They also have an Animal Print Blouse (£79)  in their collection – great for wearing with camel or black- I have a very similar one...
