    Comment
Article by Andrew Barton Andrew Barton and his expert team at his flagship salon in Covent Garden recommend their top 5 tips for summer. 1. Hair takes a battering in the summer not only from the sun and heat but also from air conditioning leaving hair parched and lacking in moisture. AC is one of the most drying environmental aggressors we live in especially for hair and skin. It’s vital that moisture is replaced in the hair by using a deep conditioning mask religiously at least once a week. Try Andrew Barton SOS Treat Me Deeply Treatment mask available from ASDA packed with Shea Butter Protein it replaces lost moisture. Add glamour to your summer hair regime 2. 2. Top tips for younger looking hair from Andrew Barton

    3
Introducing Andrew Barton I have been lucky enough to meet Andrew Barton on several occasions, and am thrilled that he has offered to share his hair tips on a regular basis with Fabafterfifty readers. Can you make your hair and yourself look younger? Ohh yes you can! Many of you know me as the makeover guru on the hit TV show “10 Years Younger” now exported around the world. The TV show aims to take at least ten years off a volunteer’s age as polled by the public. I guess you, like me, have screamed with delight as the volunteer is revealed in front of the revolving mirror and is rendered speechless when she sees a new, younger version of herself and of course I’m biased but I...
  3. Top Tips on hair colour for over 50s

    2
Article by Fabafterfifty We asked the ‘First Lady of Colour’, Jo Hansford, what hair tips she could offer on hair colour What advice would you give a lady in her 50s and beyond on colouring her hair to compliment her skin tone and how could she maintain healthy and glossy looking hair post tinting? • Always choose a colour that’s within 2 shades of your natural colour. It may be advisable to start with a semi-permanent colour or low-lights rather than going straight to an all over permanent colour. Keep to softer shades • Make sure that you choose a colour that suits your skin tone and eye colour, and keep to softer shades such as tortoiseshell as opposed to harsh heavy shades. • A short, sharp cut is essential so that your style does...

  5. Review of Shiny Happy Hair by Andrew Barton

    2
Article by Fabafterfifty As well as reading his book I also attended a talk where Andrew spoke about the right hair cut and colour could literally take years off a woman’s appearance, and how the right style could also help us look taller, thinner, and balance out wide hips- I’d like to say ‘yes please’ to all of the above!  (although  I think my unruly curls would be a challenge even for Andrew’s magic scissors!) Happy Shiny Hair has a whole chapter on hair and anti-ageing and Andrew first stresses the importance of a  healthy lifestyle including a healthy protein rich diet, drinking up to 2 litres of water a day and cutting down on alcohol. Andrew’s top twenty do’s and don’t for how to look younger Andrew shares...

  8. Tips for younger, sexier looking hair during the Menopause

    Comment
Article by Denise McAdam It is impossible to understand the importance of human hair without appreciating its sexual role – there is a vital link between sexuality and hair. We use it to draw attention to ourselves, to attract and entice, to flaunt and seduce. Hair is one of the single most important parts of our anatomy affecting our psyche.  Menopause and Hair Our hair can make our day or ruin it, make us elated or feel incredibly miserable. Some of us will take more care of it, spend more time on it and nurture it more than any other part of our body. Our anxiety about it is often beyond belief. We can love it and caress it, loathe it and curse it, but...
  9. Keeping 50plus Hair in Top Condition in Summer

    Comment
by Celebrity Stylist Denise McAdam   With summer holidays upon us, how can we best protect our hair against the damaging effects of sun, salt water and chlorine and keep it in tip top condition? Would you lie on the beach with out sunscreen to your skin? I hope not.The same applies to you hair. Strong UV light draws moisture from the cortex, the hairs middle layer resulting in structural damage. As a consequence, the outerlayer, cutical, becomes very rough which results in the hair looking dry damaged and without shine. The key thing is protection and moisturising. Swimming; again the key word is protect whether you are in salt water or chlorine .The good thing about swimming in the sea is you can put lots of conditioner or protection gels on...
  10. Dukan Diet Day 20- Added benefits for Hair?

    2
Article by Fabafterfifty With the arrival of the Dukan Diet book this week I have had the chance to read through and understand a lot more. I am now firmly in the ‘Cruise’ phase of the diet, where I am alternating my protein days with the addition of vegetables which I can select from a list of 28 options. Now that I have the book, complete with recipes, the Dukan diet does not appear as strict as I had thought- with recipes for chicken with tarragon and lemon, Indian chicken , and a special white sauce for fish it seems  a lot more appetising and hence should be easier to stick to as I don’t feel  I am depriving myself quite so harshly! I was pleased to see that there...
