  1. Review of Jane Iredale Eye Shadow Kit.

    Comment
Review by Ceri Wheeldon It is so easy to get stuck in a makeup rut, which is why I was happy to try the Jane Eye Shadow kit from clean beauty specialists Jane Iredale. All of their makeup is paraben free and they use only the highest quality minerals and botanical ingredients. I chose the palette with the Naturally Glam selection of colours which includes the shades Feather, Lace, Tulle, Velvet, Satin, Sequin The eye shadow glides on really easily. I like to build and blend multiple shades (as taught by makeup artist Jo Jewett) and the palette lends itself really well for this. It is heavily pigmented and doesn’t crease – definitely a plus in the hot weather we have been...
  2. Review of Annabelle Minerals Makeup

    Comment
Review by Ceri Wheeldon It is so easy to get stuck in a makeup rut. I know that when I first started to wear make up in my teens the whole objective was to look older. Not something I want my makeup to do today! Products and techniques have evolved since then. I was asked if I would like to try Annabelle Minerals Makeup. A range which is ideal for vegans. I cant remember the last time I used mineral makeup, so decided I would give it a go, and I’m glad I did. I tried the radiant foundation and the blusher. It could be that I am a bit thick, but my first challenge was determining how to open the foundation. I was sat...
  3. Make Up Tips for Women over 50: Video tutorial with make up artist Jo Jewett

    Comment
Article by Ceri Wheeldon Are you stuck in a makeup rut? Most of us started wearing make up at a time when we were wanting to look older and more sophisticated- and probably still apply it in the same way today as we did then. Make up artist Jo Jewett is on a mission to help women look their best at every age. She understands women’s faces and what works and doesn’t work. In fact early in her career she made up some very famous faces, including Princess Diana, Madonna and Bette Midler. Her very straightforward techniques are designed to bring out the best in each of us -knowing where o apply and where to apply shimmer can make a huge difference when it comes to minimising the appearance of wrinkles and disguising hooded eyes. Jo has been a guest on a series of chat...

Questions we discuss include: What foundation to wear over 50? How do you make up hooded eyes? What lipstick do you wear if you have thin lips? Will going grey age you? How do you change your makeup if you let your hair go grey? What is the best way to layer your clothes? What can you do if you are applying for jobs and are constantly rejected? How easy is it to change roles to do something different? What should you include in a CV? What skills should you highlight of you have had a...
  5. 5 Biggest makeup mistakes women over 50 make and how to avoid them!

    Comment
Article by Jo Jewett   I’ve been fighting the fight to give women the right to choose, use and buy the best makeup possible for them- regardless of age or lifestyle. Its a minefield out there! After years on the beauty front line I’ve acquired a real perspective - what works and what doesn’t and I’m ready to spill it all! We have all had enough of the beauty industry preying on our insecurities and we have paid the price with all the expensive mistakes - the ‘New seasons colours’ and ‘Miracle ingredient’ but even the smartest among us will have been duped by the industry marketing ploys. So here I am, telling the Beautiful Truth, I felt so strongly I wrote the book and started...

    Comment
Review by Ceri Wheeldon I am so pleased to see big brands finally recognising our needs, as women over 50 and our spending power) and tailor products to reflect this stage of our lives. I was delighted to be asked to review L’Oreal’s Age Perfect makeup range - developed with the needs of mature skin in mind - products that don’t just improve how we look, but also improve the quality of our skin , lips and lashes over time. With Julianne Moore as the face of the range - it’s good to see that they are embracing and celebrating women over 50. 10. How to choose the right lighting to apply makeup

    Comment
Shedding some light on makeup application Research has shown that the average woman will spend as much as £22,000 on makeup and beauty products in her lifetime, and almost two years of her life applying it, which is the equivalent of nine days per year! Despite this hefty investment of both time and money, we can all relate to occasions where we’ve looked in the mirror some hours later, to see a streaky face and panda eyes staring back at us. So what do we do in these situations (beside cursing and wishing we hadn’t bothered leaving the house)? We go and purchase yet more makeup - more waterproof, more smudgeproof, more lifeproof makeup. But, what if it’s not the makeup that’s causing the problems?   Step into the light   New...
